VIN

would anyone know why my vin on my registration (1981RD350LC)starts with JYA4Y3******* but on my frame it starts with 4Y3 ?

Looks like Nova Scotia added the Japanese prefix to your VIN to make it a 17 digit VIN.

Makes it easier to insure.
They don't do that here in Ontario, so we are limited to three companies that will insure a vehicle that doesn't have a 17 digit VIN. The insurance companies use a database called "Autoplus" to rate your vehicle and "Autoplus" has a 17 digit mask on the VIN.

The vin on my frame has 4y3 and then 6 digits .....on my papers it has jya4y3 and then the same 6 digits plus 4 extra zeros. I'm thinking if I get pulled over the cops might have a problem with that.
