Engine RPM at 60 MPH

#1 Post by 350YPVS » Sat Jul 29, 2017 8:34 pm

Hi all,

On my conversion I'm trying to get my gearing / sprockets sorted out (as the bike revs to high right now due to the 17 inch tire). Could someone tell me what the stock RPM is at 60 MPH?

Thx.

I'm running a 17 tooth front and a 39 tooth rear on my hybrid with 17" wheels. At 60 mph I'm turning about 5200 rpm.
Hope that helps.

Just got back from a ride and at 60 mph I'm actually turning 4800 rpm.

You are geared quite low. My LC turns around 6000 rpm at 60 mph (100 km/hr).

Yeah, I probably am. I might go up a couple of teeth on the rear the next I do chain and sprockets. But I mainly ride higher speed back roads and the gearing works well for me.

I prefer stock gearing, as I run non o ring chains. O ring chains rob power on small bikes. Going smaller on the front sprocket wears out the chain faster. I would shoot for stock ratios on the tach by altering the rear sprocket. That's my $0.02.

Small aside: Neither the Speedometer Nor the Tachometers have history of being accurate... far from it :-)
Even when Brand new. Speeds you can verify with a GPS.
Rpms with a proven tach device.
Best know what yer dealing with... before fooling with the bits.

Typically 10% high. 60mph in sixth gear should be 5k rpms. My analog tach shows 5500 at 60mph while the Vapor I have displays 5k at 60. Tthe 350/400 RD's are also geared to turn 5k at 60mph.
