Splitting cases...

#1 Post by expat » Sat Sep 02, 2017 5:36 pm

I am doing a restoration for a friend and want to have the crankcase halves vapor blasted and the top repainted.
Is it possible to split the cases without removing the clutch and flywheel?
My plan was to unbolt, flip the motor, vapor blast the bottom half, reassemble, flip and then blast the top half before buttoning it all back together...
removing the clutch and flywheel is not an issue, just trying to save some hours!

Nope, You need to remove both, The stator behind the flywheel bolts to both halves and there is a bearing holder behind the clutch bolted to both halves

I'm not sure how much time you'd actually save. The vapour blast grit gets into everything.
