53,000 miles on my 90 RZ350. Should I replace the reeds?

I don't understand my bike's high mileage either. When I first got it from Canada, I was getting 40 - 42 MPG (US gal). When I switched to the Redline 2stroke racing oil is when the mileage jumped to where it is now. Cause and effect or coincidence? I don't know, but I like it. That's the reason I don't want to change the set up. From everything I've read, OEM reed failure on a non-race bike is very rare. If I would go to CF I'd probably have to rejet. I'd rather not because it runs very well as is. If I can get 50,000 more miles on the second set of reeds I'll be very happy. I'll also be amazed because I'm 75 years old. ?
Since my RZ is waiting for the new reeds, I just took my 78 DT250 for a 140 mile ride through the twisties today. The brakes on those things are downright frighteningly bad. There's another project in the works for me.

Are you calculating miles or kilometers?
Red/White US '84, Spec II pipes, Y-boot w/K&N, Fox Shock, Mikuni carbs?

It's all good , weather its possibly a simple misunderstanding reading the Km of Canadian gauges or just good MPG from how you enjoy your riding, it does not really matter whatsoever, as long as it's putting a smile on your face., & Keep that loyal girl...stock!Ebayru wrote: When I first got it from Canada, If I can get 50,000 more miles on the second set of reeds I'll be very happy. The fact that you are 75 years old and still riding, my congradulations!
Im about 25 years younger and last week purchased a old school GSXR SRAD track/race bike, with rearsets and the suspension is set up soley for circuit use...OH so stiff and harsh on the street...punishing really..I sneaked it out into a public highway and rode for around 40 miles...I'll tell you what...I was stiff as a board and frankly sore the next day.
1st off, Right here right now.. in my case I'm not sure ?, I still can't get past the loss of my wife but I think perhaps ,hopefully with time...I'd like to live to see 75 years of age,
2nd to be able to go for a motorcycle ride at 75, I'm guessing would be most enjoyable.
I can only imagine the year.. 2043

The same speedometers were used on many of Yamaha's US bikes. I changed to one of those so I'm not converting KM to miles and I've verified the odometer.
Biking at 75 is better than any psychotropic drug for mood enhancement. When my back is sore a ride on my RZ with its clip one does wonders for my back. My mother took her first bike ride at 97. She giggled all the way while perched on the back of my RZ.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your wife. Hang in there. She's still with you.

wow...I'm lucky to get about the same as my Ford ST...~25 to ~29Ebayru wrote:I get between 52 and 62 miles per USA gallon depending on how hard I'm pushing it. That's why I don't want to change much from stock. The reeds with the 53,000 miles on them look very good, but I'm changing them to be on the safe side.
