Clutch assembly / installation

#1 Post by 350YPVS » Mon Sep 18, 2017 5:28 pm

Hi,

I'm working on changing the clutch pack in my motor and when I took the existing out out, I noticed that there only appeared to be 3 cushion rings in it. I also noticed that there was no o-ring round the primary drive and that the parts manual shows 6 cushion rings. So..... what do the cushion rings do and are they required? What about the O-ring around the clutch basked?

Thx.

Cushion rings are noise reduction. Unnecessary. The big primary gear o-ring??? Not sure but I believe it's noise reduction and isn't needed either but is still available from Yamaha at via boats.net for$8.83 so WTF why not?

Just for your info, if the basket moves at all with relation to the gear, your basket is pooched. It can be repaired. It's a tough fix though.

Mine got loose and I replaced the whole thing with a Hinson Billet unit.
