Water pump bearing

#1 Post by 350YPVS » Sun Oct 29, 2017 4:16 pm

Hi,

I just got my new Yamaha water pump bearing and noticed that there was a plastic seal on one side (the one I took out had no such seal). Just wondering if I should remove the seal .... and if not, which direction does it face (towards the engine or the impeller?)

Thx.

Newer bearings have grease seals, as Jon said, face out of the engine. Many have cases or seals on both side, those don't matter.

Always wondered why this bearing has to be a special type as the seal is there for the job ?

Its not special, a normal 6300 will be fine.

Yes I used just a normal SKF bearing but was wondering why the standard one has the plastic bit etc ?

I remember that i used 2 flatter seals upon eachother. Cheaper and better availabel. (20 years ago)[emoji51]
