Inside diameter oil pump lines

#1 Post by LC Cnd » Fri Apr 06, 2018 12:13 am

Does anyone know what the inside diameter is for the oil line to the carbs and the IO for the larger line that goes into the pump is from the 2stroke tank? Looking for tygon lines for both of them.

Whats wrong with OEMs? Most of the clear tubes cause air bubbles.

I will contact Gary direct on this issue. Bubbles? Sounds like a sealing problem.

The issue with the clear pipe (outlet) is that it goes very soft when hot and the constant vaccume in it causes it to change size in use (go smaller). When it cools  down and goes back to standard size this shows up as a column of air at the carb end. This does not happen with the (gen) black lines and I've both proved it and documented it many times!
Basically made up some short clear adapters to prove.

I have already stated in the past that not everyone experiences this issue.

Gary also mention to me that the "The internal diameters for the inlet and outlet are 3mm and 2mm respectively. That is the bore size of the stubs. The pipe bore sizes are 6mm and 3mm." Checked material data sheet for Tygon fuel and lubicating tubing. Its is stable up to 165F / 74C at 1821 psi. Not sure if it gets that hot in the oil pump compartment to cause the bubbling issue. I was thinking clear tubing to monitor whether oil was flowing to the carbs.

If you need to monitor oil flow then fit a very long length and loop it over the handlebars! If no bubbles are present you won't see any flow anyway.

I'd loop them to the mirrors (lol). Ach, clear or not is the question. Don't doubt the pumps will work for the next 20 yrs or so as long as I spray grease monthly as suggested. Note Norbo sell clear tubing, hmm. Ponder time.

OEM black for me, but people have their own choices. That's fine.

No clear for me... I removed it (the stuff I got from Norbo I think) and went back to black a few years back.

I've used the clear hardware store stuff before and it goes hard in no time, I can see the logic in what Arrow says. I have tried several types and settled on the Tygon stuff that RC guys use for nitromethane. I never get bubbles and don't even use clips on the ends, the stuff is almost impossible to pull off the fittings. That is for the lines from the pump to the carbs, from the oil tank I use a clear (slightly pink) tubing sold by Royal Distributing as fuel line, it feels and behaves like Tygon but is unlabelled. My local RC store said they could order Tygon in that size if I wanted a whole roll but I've never found the need. If you get bubbles in that line while riding you have a bigger problem.

You don't have to order a whole roll. Found you can purchase 3 ft at a time for tygon black, clear, or grey in Canada:

I bought the oem Black Yama oil lines from the dealers.
These were surprisingly inexpensive, only a couple of $.. to add insult to injury.
Still sold as fitments for their Scooters even
