best parts source RD350

#1 Post by kar1zma » Wed Apr 18, 2018 9:14 am

Hi all

Great to be on the forum
I used to have an RD350 back in college in India
Bought it with absolutely zero knowledge about the bike
Obviously got fleeced but had great fun

I siezed a piston and with no money to repair sold it dirt cheap and I regret it ever since

Now many many years later and with a little more wisdom hopefully  I plan to build my dream RD

I'm looking at a junk RD to buy and do it ground up
Your support will be invaluable

Looking at making reliable 50-55hp from the motor
So US spec barrels and some head porting and a set of
DG it spec2 pipes

Before all that fancy stuff need ur advice on where to start hunting for barrels and heads .best shops to send these over
To be built and best source of parts . Advice on where to build the crank etc etc

Guys all ur tips and advices are welcome thanks

Well you should try to get a hold of Ron Chinoy in Bangalore.
His forum is still active at http://www.rddreams.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

id rather get what i want from USA and enjoy my bike today rather than a few years later

Try Economy Cycle. They should have most of what you need. Yambits in the UK is good too. As far as porting and machine work, Chuck Quinzler is who did my machining and porting. Excellent work. You may find more sources on the aircooled forum board or 2SW.

Wicked in California is also experienced in Air cooled bikes, give him a call as well, he may be able to help you with engine upgrades.

FYI heads up fair warning, Gary @ Spec 2 is a good man.. but very good chance your motor ( might) be a 1 year ordeal.

Scott Clough lives about 5 streets from me, He told me he only does port work & cranks. His reputation is good, I had a small issue with him to look at something for me, went to his house and he didn't answer and it kinda pissed off. He likley he had a honest reason for not showing/answering..but I just took my parts elsewhere, I don't tolerate 2 stroke guys bullshit anymore, just do what you say and I pay you.. and we're good.
Do something unprofessional. I'll just go elsewhere regardless of your reputation.
Chuck Q has a very good rep as well, but I've never dealt with him in person
Harry Klemm does full RD rebuilds and does 375 to 465cc big bore kits as well. He built a friend's engine pretty quick so I'd recommend him as well.
Any if the above are capable it's just catching them in the right mood, and keeping them to your schedule, within reasonable expectations from both of you builder & customer
