Wiseco Garage Buddy Engine Rebuild Kit

#1 Post by Hooligan » Thu Sep 20, 2018 7:53 pm

Came across this new? product from Wiseco today. They list their Garage Buddy engine kit as containing everything needed to fully rebuild an engine. This includes a crank, seals, gaskets, pistons etc and even an hour meter.

Interestingly they list a kit for a Banshee. I assume the banshee kit would fit an RZ?

This is the US parts and price list:
https://www.wiseco.com/PDFs/PWRGarageBu ... 20Kits.pdf

This is a Banshee kit on Amazon.ca
https://www.amazon.ca/Wiseco-PWR100-640 ... B077BMWJXY

At first blush, the price seems a bit dear but considering a crank is $600 to rebuild, this kit is not out of line considering it includes everything. Its an interesting option anyway.

Interesting idea, designed to be simple and a one-stop shop plus it gets you buying everything from them, nice product idea since they have it all in the catalogue etc.

Not to sound like a party pooper or to rain on the parade, but....you can get an aftermarket crank for $500 Cdn. Add the rest of the parts you need and you really aren't saving anything at all, and given the current $US exchange rate you are paying more than you might think. My suggestion would be to buy the crank, use your choice of piston kits, and use OEM gaskets rather than the junk the online kits will come with. In the end it will cost you the same. And FWIW...I had 2 boxes come from the US last week. Both shipped US Postal Service. Canada Customs stopped both I paid 15.5 % duty, customs fees and taxes on both. That is for the same parts I have bought from the US before. Now Canada Customs is digging into every box heading across the border. I suppose I should just be happy there were no stupid tariffs applied (yet). Figure that risk into any kit you buy from the US. I was just about ready to buy a couple of RZ500 crank sets at $1000 US ($1335 Cdn) plus shipping for each set. Now I'm not ready to risk getting screwed by Canada Customs again and adding another $400 Cdn on top of each crank set. Sometimes a deal isn't much of a deal. The closer you shop to home, the better off you may be.

I wasnt suggesting it was a good idea for the likes of most of us here, just that it made sense as a product if you were Wiseco and im sure they will sell loads to people who dont have the knowledge and bandwidth to work it all out for themselves. I'd always buy what I wanted piecemeal, as Im sure will 99% of the guys on this forum.

FWIW OEM banshee/RZ cranks are not that much more than aftermarket etc
