'84 RZR 250 (Jap import)

#1 Post by L.B » Thu May 23, 2013 11:53 pm

Thought id start a new thread on the new addition.
I cant describe how it feels to fill the shed up with 2 stroke smoke....just to be able to go for a ride on one again, like a bloody kid again lol.

So far I have change the handle bars back to stock, rebuilt m/c & fork seals next.
Also need to fix the carbs as these weren't right, needles are different so need to fix asap.
While carbs are off I was thinking about replacing reeds,as Vforce 3's def dont fit lol.
Anyone got some input on good reeds for 250?
Also noticed this,

I didnt know Yamaha were into this type of porting, esp for a lowly little 250 lol.Usually only seen on 350 barrels, with lots of tig filler welding & even then I dont think these transfer ports worked that well???
Barrels marks as "51L"
Ill get pic's of the tank,it must have been bought new very recently as the paint is perfect factory finish & the inside is like brand new!Fitted new oem tap & cap.
Waiting on Dyna coils & input for what reeds to buy. Also who & where to buy carb kit/needles etc from?

Carb kit is same as 31k with diff jets isn't it? both VM26.... needles are marked with code, just buy same I guess if you want to replace.
Reeds.... Yamaha? Else measure them and see what suppliers suggest.

Its said that some of the internal ways are narrowed on the 250 version, hence it should not be used on a 350, and the PJ versions of the 250 have fixed, not removable, jets.

Jon,Aaron. Different needle jet & pilot sizes on 250 carbs. Dunno if 350 carbs be good/bad for 250 motor?
Ok.carb kit options.
Dynojet,keyster,sigma & cruizing image ones.
Anyone have pro's/cons on any above?
250 reeds......pffft. Only boysen.....
Might do what i did back in the day, spent bucks on porting to suit the 350 reed cages grafted onto the 250 barrels. I always wonder where that bike/motor ended up. Quick little unit.
Might go to UK site as pretty sure Canada didnt have 250 & 100% sure US didnt have two fiddy either.
Any input appreciated.

Rather than start another thread,Ill post these here.
Thanks to a heads up from JonW,I landed a near perfect set of LC tank & body work for peanuts.Tank is in near perfect condition & no rust inside.I am amazed.
So will be starting on the LC project soon, just got to make some more room in the shed first lol.
Whats peoples thoughts on storing tanks?Fill with metho?Or fuel/oil mix?

Ok, this is what I would do... put a 100ml of 2T oil in it and roll it round, cap it and then... when the mrs is out/in the shower/watching something on TV etc etc, put it ontop the wardrobe in the house... every week when the mrs is doing whatever it was when you snuck the thing into the house, roll the oil round again.

{optional} while rolling the oil around, think about riding the bike on a sunny day :D

Seriously great news you grabbed this lovely bodykit, if i didnt have a yellow bike I would have a white and blue one, I love this look. Cant wait to see your LC when its done!

Much better option for he LC tank and body work is send it to me, if my camera was working Id show you my tank, its quite the oposite, mind you I picked up an lc with 4 spare bottom ends, a new top and bottom end, new loom, all new bearings and enough boxes of plastics and radiators and stuff to fill a 6x4 trailer, also got an RZstator with matching 29L cdi, and a spare 29L cdi for good measure. Its a 250. Re the reads Ive read that yz 85 reeds may be an optionfor a 250 LC, this maybe also an option for the RZ.
Also RG250 pipes allegedly work with some slight cut and welding on the LC, again maybe transferable to the RZ.
The only other soup up option ive read is deck height exhaust port to 28.5 from 30 and get your squish to .9. ( I would not recomend doing this yourself and seek more expert opinion before doing any damage). Re the carbs, interesting topic as recently I read some stuff from racers who reckoned the LC 250 carbs worked better on the 350's. This was LC info. So who knows you read something new every day. At any rate good luck mate and that tank is georgeous.
