Hooligan vs Hondaror

#1 Post by Hooligan » Sat Aug 12, 2017 7:00 pm

Out with Rory last night. Hooning around like we were teenagers. :smt006

A little fun was had dragging down long and deserted industrial park roads. We didn't do a proper standing start, but from a rolling start, Rory's bumble bee RZ did a pretty good job keeping up with my FZ750. Not sure all exactly what he has done to that thing but I'm told it has 54 hp at the rear wheel and for sure it is not slow. :smt023

The FZ prob weighs a good 200 lbs more than the RZ but it has about 20 hp more at the rear wheel. The RZ stays with the FZ through a gear or two before the bigger 4-stroke begins to inexorably pull ahead. As the speed increases, the FZ pulls ahead even faster.

As mentioned, these were from a rolling start. I think that from a standing start, the RZ would get absolutely smoked. Slipping the clutch madly while trying to keep the front tire down and the motor on the pipe tends to kill drive. The long and low FZ would dig in and accelerate with much less fuss.

Anyway, it was good fun and brought back loads of memories of a misspent 20's for me. :smt003

56 wheel ponies for the bumble bee. We should try the standing start. I think you'd be following me through 4 gears.
It was a great evening with you and Kelly...and the Hooligans.

Just pipes and the pods with the jetting on the dyno.

When I was racing, we'd go off the line with the Formula 2 bikes and the SV's would kill the TZ's off the line. Normally took the top TZ guys 2-3 laps to catch up.

Launching a 2-stroke is an art and even then requires a ton of clutch abuse.

That was a twin. Every 750 I ever launched against, always went by me after 4 gears. RZ is much easier to launch then a TZ.

I once took my RD400 on ride with buddy who had a Ducati 748. Needless to say I felt extremely slow. I'll stick to smoking my buddies who are also riding older 2strokes. I am hoping the RZ will be a little more competitive with modern bikes but it is still 30+ years old.
