MOTO GP rules

#1 Post by This old RZ » Wed Jun 19, 2013 12:23 pm

It really kind of silly they way they constantly change things, they to sometimes save $ ??

Just some of the changes
Change from 2 strokes to 4 strokes..total development program, but understand why they did it, to 990 machines
Change from 990cc to 800cc machines..total redevelopment program, learn everything over again
Change back to 1000cc machines..total redevelopment program. Learn everything over again
New spec tire rules, all riders re learn tires
Again new tire rule regarding specific compounds and allotments, riders relearn tires
All electronic packages for each inception of bike..riders must re learn bikes 990/800/1000
Engine use rules requiring limited engines, per year
New revised engine rules requiring even less engines per year
Rookie rule on 1st year riders...? why bother?
New deletion of Rookie rules
Engines with unlimited development ,original inceptions
Engines with pneumatic valves are allowed
Engines with pneumatic valves are not allowed
Engines with pneumatic valves are okay again
No gearbox changes allowed, Honda finds a loophole@ $300.000 per transsmission
Seamless transmissions allowed..
Constantly revised weight and component, fuel and material restrictions.

This is just from top of my head..I'm sure there are pages upon pages of rules and regulations that seem to change each and every year. These teams and riders have to re learn their motorcycles every year...No Wonder many riders are in it just for the paycheck..or just leaving like Mr. Stoner did.

What would it be like if the rules were rigid, inflexible and never evolved with technology?

Apparently one of the major costs are the electronics and the technitions to run it. I think BSB may be on to something with their spec ECU.

I do like the spec tire rule. It has changed racing generally for the better.

spec ecu.... we are doing that in our local aussie super bikes... but there are still cheats....

i know of a racer who crashed and pulled his ecu out of the bike before it made its way back to the pits...
