first VRRA round of 2013
hey guys,
its been a while since i posted about my racing adventures.
so.... over the winter (more like the spring actually lol) i made a couple modifications to the ole girl. see my build thread for the details on that.
one that i thought would work out well was the switch to a capacitor over a battery. i was wrong. during the first round i had lots trouble keeping plugs in it. at the time i had no idea why but now i know it was something to do with the lack of a clean 12v.
so the weekend went like this. i skipped friday practice because I'm a cheap bastard. lol saturday i had 2 heat races p4f3 first and then my bump up class p4f2. they do the grids for the first round heat races by the points from the previous year so i was starting from the front row for both. the first race went horribly when i burned up a plug on the starting line and road the whole race on one cylinder. i finished but was passed by 20 or so bikes. :( i was disapointed to say the least. the second race went better after a plug change the bike ran like a top. i was in third and chasing down the leaders on the second to last lap when i had a hube moment and rode off the track and very nearly went down. i amazingly got it back on track and still in 3rd no less. i had lost any chance of catching the leaders and 4th and 5th had caught right up. they passed my on the back straight and i chillled out and followed them to the finish. for a fine finish of 5th in the heat giving me a lovely start spot for the final the next day.
after a very wet night that collapsed the canopy onto my bike scratching my fresh paint sunday came around and the weather was seeming to clear. i kept my slicks on and hoped. the track was just about full dry when my first race came around. finishing 20 or so gave me a brutal start spot but i made the most of it and made my way up to 10th or so having a good dice with a few riders with me winding up on top of the exchanges. i was a lot of fun! i was rather optimistic about the next race with my 2nd row start spot.
the afternoon finally came around and i geared up, i pulled the warmers off and with a push from a friend the rz lit up. getting to the line after the warm up lap i was trying to keep it from getting fouled by blipping the throttle. it worked and when the flag dropped i got a great launch and ended up in 4th going around turn 1. by the time we got to the back straight where a red flag was waving i was right on the ass of 2nd place. and i though SHIT! i had gotten a good start too!
it would seem someone didnt make turn 1 o the first lap. they brought us to the line and had us shut down untill they cleaned up the bike and the rider(who only had minor injuries). on the second warm up lap something seemed to happen to the bike. it just made a funny sound. a miss or something. they seemed to hold us on the starting line FOR EVER; and my throttle blipping didn't seem help the plugs this time as when the flag dropped i had nothing:( tons of bikes went by.
i dunno where i ended up by the checkered flag but i know i was lapped by at least 5 riders! such a disappointment!
since then i have purchased a small battery and switched things to a total loss ignition. i had a track/testing day where i was able to test and may sure things were going to work and everything went off without a hitch! so now i get to loose some more weight off the bike (the coils and wires and all that business.
i also finally got my fairing painting and mounted. even got my sponsor stickers put on there.
here she is.
im rather excited about the next round with a bike that shouldn't give me any running issues! and it looks not too bad either!
anyone around here want to come check out the races?

I think that dog needs a sidecar rig. Just sayin'
I had hoped to be at the Quinte TT Alex, but it was pissing rain here all weekend and my ankle was killing me. Will you be there for the Summer Classic?
Good to see GPL and Economy have sponsored you.

he would make a shitty monkey! he whines wayyyyyy to much... and doesnt have thumbs!
no worries john. it was kinda shitty weather but somehow almost all the races were fully dry.
ya glyn helped me out with engine work, parts and tuning advice. its great advert for glyn now with the fairing and all; people say my bike is a rocket-ship too. it helps that i think her and i combined ready to race only weigh like 460 pounds. (have yet to confirm that though)
economy helped me out with a discount on parts.
i sure wish i could get an actual sponsor. this racing shit is expensive!
can anyone else make it out to the summer classic?

It's funny, although I have no desire to race myself, I would love to try the monkey thing. Hanging off a sidecar just inches off the track is my kind of fun. Maybe they have days where brainless idiots like myself can try it out? I mean, what's the worst that could happen? It's not like I'd have far to fall. I suppose if I did I'd be a speed bump. Still like to give it a go.alexanderdraper wrote:he would make a shitty monkey! he whines wayyyyyy to much... and doesnt have thumbs!

Re: first VRRA round of 2013
If I can move properly on this wonky ankle by then I'm definitely interested. If I need my own leathers it will be a problem.
Not sure I can be there on the 6th. Have to attend a service for a friend that just passed away. Still waiting for more details.

Re: first VRRA round of 2013
I have 6 helmets. I have loads of protective gear. If I had leathers I'd race. I don't want to race, so I don't have leathers. The logic may seem flawed, but it works for mealexanderdraper wrote:you should have your own leathers and helmet. shouldnt share them things...
Gammaguy has kindly offered to let me use a spare set of leathers he has. I think it has something to do with wanting to watch me get thrashed. I suspect I'm too big for them anyway, but I do appreciate the offer.
