Indy final MOTO GP qualifying and news. Spoooileeeer!

#1 Post by This old RZ » Sun Aug 18, 2013 12:42 am

Guess who's on Top o' the World again, dammed kids...LOL :smt005 And the only guy near 137! and a circuit record as well.
SPIES IS OUT! out! out! damaged his other shoulder severe dislocation. He crashed in 1st gear just several turns out of the pits, never even shifted into 2nd gear. Now here's the funny part, I'm calling BS on this one Spies claims he didn't know the Ducati TC traction control system, does not activate in 1st gear, unlike the Yamaha which does. He is quoted as saying " Guess I should have known that, or somebody should have told me" ??? WTF I guess anything is possible. But sounds a little fishy. He perhaps is going to have to call it quits at some point soon if his luck doesn't change. The Suzuki Moto GP rumors were just that ,only rumors they were /are interested in Rossi and Crutchlow was also apparently in their sights as well, but their decision to wait until the 2015 season caught a few guys out.
And Nicky getting within 1/2 second of the Yamahas..at least for a lap or two. And Smith getting it done... kinda cool. Out griding the man himself, Speaking of Rossi...well 9th his race might be done already? I cant figure out why he cannot get through qualifying under the new system this year, old dog new tricks perhaps?? Should be fun, I personally hate the INDY track, but a race is a race :smt001

I think Rossi's last spark of greatness for the season was used up at Assen. He and Bautista will probably tangle and be out on the first lap. Sure the remnant of great ability is there, but the fearless adaptibility of youth is GONE. Ditto for Nicky. You were spot on in your other post about Nicky taking the safe route. Not to condemn Nicky, but he has been totally uninspiring with Ducati. I can understand Ducati wanting somebody with some fire in their eye and hiring Crutchlow. Casey didn't give a shit how much the Duc moved around. He just pinned it and rode through the wierdness. But that was Casey...can't expect everybody to have that kind of cojones. I don't think Nicky will be overly competitive again, because the bike has to be too perfect. Ditto for Valentino. Sure, the Honda is the best bike right now, but I bet Marquez could fight for the win on the Ducati. He adapts. Old RZ, doesn't he remind you a little bit of a young Freddie Spencer who could win on anything back in his prime? If he doesn't do anything stupid and stays healthy, he will be untouchable for a long time.
Time for Ben to go sell real estate or something. In a way it reminds me of the Mike Hale blunder.

yea he does stuff on that Honda that is amazing, or just pure luck. There is luck in every race for every rider ,every lap but you've watched the video of him, the bikes twisting, sliding, wheeling in different directions...and somehow, he manages to save it and point it where he wants it. Cool stuff to watch, especially in the ultra slow motion, some of the shots of the countersteering of Pedrosa, actually all the riders is awesome you see how much they have to fight the bikes, these bikes are really manhandled. They are not tame , they are beasts just like the 500s were in their day. But I think the day in now here where the current MOTOGP bikes are even more wicked and dangerous than the 500s were. High sides are now common, even with TC and were talking massive high sides, just look how many people have ben put into the hospital with serious injuries in the past few years Rossi, Lorenzo, Stoner, Pedrosa, Spies, even Marquez has had some vicious crashes.... Again just pure luck! He easily could have been damaged beyond his ability to ride, glad he wasn't and I hope his luck doesn't run out as far as injuries are concerned.

He is lucky, but he also extremely talented, I don't think anyone could win on the Ducati the past few years, not even Stoner. I do believe Marquez could produce better results..big time. Hes good on just about any factory machine. Remember MOTO 2, he started from last place 2x and won once, and finished on the podium in another, that's MOTO2 the most hotly contested series in MOTO GP...passed every single rider in front of him..not a small grid either your talking 25-30 bikes!.

One thing of intrest is the fact we really haven't had a chance to see Marq Marquez ride anything other than a full factory backed racing program, he has had simply the best machinery at his disposal, anything he wants , he gets. The "full arsenal of HRC!" It helps, there is a reason Stoner, Doohan etc.. are in such awe of him...hes talented like few others.

My favorite part was sitting high up by turn 1 and watching them topping out on the front straight, and going into the turn....although the Yamaha's howled the best.
The sounds of those bikes resonating through the stands is awesome..... :smt007 But you definitely get to see and understand the race better watching on TV.
Seeing them drag knees and elbows right in front of you, is quite a site to see too.......
