Wow. Photo adds to the marvel of such a trek. Must take a few minutes to corral all those m/c's together. Suspect nite passage are less hassle. Ever stay in a hotel vs. campsite? Curious. Watched a youtube vid of a Dutch gent giving a tour of the TT track with bits of history and accommodation tips while riding - quite informative but can't find it anymore. Searched today - nothing sadly. Anyone got the link? Thx.
Re: Isle of Man TT 2016
Every ferry on the way over is packed. Doesn't matter when it goes. Some 60,000 - 70,000 people make the trip over in only a couple of days. We arrived at the ferry the night before and the lineups to get on are very long. You end up waiting hours but it is all part of the fun.

Re: Isle of Man TT 2016
Our campsite just outside of Union Mills. Gotta fly the flag at an international event like this one. We camped next to some Brits. The French were across from us and the Italians a bit further down.
This is part of the TT course as it runs through the village of Kirkmicheal. Race bikes are doing over 150 mph through this section.
To say you get close to the action is an understatement. This is the end of Kirkmicheal and that bike is doing at least 150mph.
Douglas - not a car to be seen.
Glencrutchery Road - 3 cars, 300 bikes.
You don't fuk around on the IoM. There is no room for error and people die there all the time. I suspect this sign is way more effective than any speed limit. Bikes typically outnumber cars by a large margin everywhere you go during TT week.

Appreciate the photos and like the tent flag - gunna borrow that idea if I go the tenting route. Notice there are tent rentals its almost like having a hotel room. Bell tents with floors. Looks interesting.
Re: Isle of Man TT 2016
The cool thing about carrying the flag around is that very few CDNs will be there and most of the euros like us. :)
We used to do it at the GPs in Germany and Italy.

They do, We living in Europe in my late teens and hanging out with a bunch of Americans we all wore small Canadian flag pins someone got from the Embassy, no one hassled us at all, but saw plenty Americans get hassled back then.two-stroke-brit wrote:Everybody like Canadians ,dont they ?

Re: Isle of Man TT 2016
I lived in Europe for 5 years (1988-93) and was always amazed at how well I was treated when people discovered I was Canadian. More than a few times I was asked if I was American. When I replied that I was Canadian the mood instantly changed and took on a more friendly tone. Not sure why that was, but there was a huge difference in the way they treated Canadians compared to other off continent nationalities. Back then we used to joke about how many people who weren't Canadian still used a small Canadian flag.
Re: Isle of Man TT 2016
Yep, those small pins saved lots of people I reckon.
I think back then Americans who travelled were often brash and dripping in cameras and cash, which meant they got mugged. I think the locals just hated the noisy intrusion and word got round so locals became hostile.
I remember hearing this exchange once:
- American Tourist (with camera round his neck): 'Hey, can you tell me how to get to {famous place}?!'
- Local: 'Go and buy a map...'

Yep sounds familiar. Where did you live? I was in SW Germany during that time.silverstrom wrote:I lived in Europe for 5 years (1988-93) and was always amazed at how well I was treated when people discovered I was Canadian. Re: Isle of Man TT 2016
Small world. A neighbour across the street has a relative who has a banker cousin living on the Isle of Man. She asked about accommodation but was he unable to oblige due to the recent birth of his daughter - understandable. Met, amazingly, 2 other people with relatives at the IOM in my town - did not work out. Just canvassing - is there a trusted IMO B&B they had a good experience with for next year. Thx.
Re: Isle of Man TT 2016
Here is all the best WT F1 tracks (to scale) inside the TT just to show how big the TT is - the next largest being the old Nurburgring top centre. Here is the link to get the data on the map: http://wtf1.co.uk/so-damn-cool-the-worl ... -to-scale/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Correction - it appears Pike's Peak is 2nd place.
