Laguna Seca w Solo - pics added

#1 Post by Hooligan » Sat Jul 09, 2016 10:44 pm

We are down in Laguna Seca for WSBK with Solo2 and his wife. This is the first big race they have ever been to and I think we hit most of the big goals already.

Stood in awe before the Corkscrew.

Met famous racer from the 80's and had a nice chat.

Met current racer and had a nice chat over lunch.

Got into team garage and ogled bikes.

Ogled umbrella girls.

This is only Saturday, we still have Sunday to go. Hopefully we haven't set the bar too high for any future races he may go to. :)

PS Just discovered The King is here. Goal for tomorrow is to track him down for a pic.

Best moment of the weekend I think. Having a nice chat with Randy Mamola. He was super nice and we must have talked for 20 minutes or more.

One of my top moments was being out on pit lane for the sunday morning warmup. Its not super easy to be on pit lane when bikes are on track.

The current World Champ and series points leader.

We all got to spend some time in the box and check out the bike.

In MotoGP we were never allowed to see the Honda unclothed and pictures were out of the question.

Spare motor anyone?

It was nice to spend some time with Karel under less demanding conditions. We had lunch with him both days.

Honda had a nice display of vintage race bikes.

If a minty never raced RC30 is worth the better part of $50k un the UK, imagine what a certified ex-Freddie Spencer RC30 must be worth.

Lucky buggers!!!
Leguna Seca would be top of anybodies list that is into Motorsport.
I know you went to MotoGP when Abrahams was racing in that as a special guest, how do you know him?
Like I said, lucky buggers!

A mate from the Toronto area used to attend a few years back, he was a Honda employee back then and he had photos
in the pits like yours.
Always made me jealous!

This is my third time at Laguna. It is only a 2 hour flight plus a 2 hour drive for us so fairly painless to get to. While you are pining for Laguna, we'd love to go to Philip Island. :smt003

I turns out that Karel and I have a shared interest in another hobby. He actually contacted me looking for some equipment I designed. I just recognized his name and asked if it was really him. After that he invited us down to a race and the rest is history. We have been to three MotoGP with him and even went to his home in Brno for a few days to hang out.

It has all been a lot of fun and he is a really nice guy and very interesting to talk to. It turns out that he doesn't actually like to talk bikes when we are together because bikes are his job so he wants to talk about other stuff most of the time.

This trip it felt a bit like we crossed over into the inner circle as we were invited out for dinner with his whole family and we can now pretty much walk in and out of the pit box as we please. :smt004

The difficult part for us, as normal working stiffs, is to be able to afford trips out to races to see him each year. I'm hoping to get him out to Calgary for a few days at some point. That would be fun to have a world level racer come and visit us. :smt023
