Yamaha RD 350 LC Endurance -Cure de jouvence pour un mythe

Here is the French article with very interesting photos - especially the instrument cluster:
https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 96Io2HKr1v

Here's the translation:
Fans of the two-stroke who smokes here a preparation on base of Yamaha RD 350 LC which should make you shudder to the depths of your underpants.
Since the RC 350 LC exists, exactly 39 years, it has been declined in all sauces with more or less success, but with this "Crazy Carbon" we hold a real work-art!
The base is a 1986 version, 32 years, we would not say, and it will have taken a lot of work to reach the final result. Its designer, Mike Navarro, a resident of Valencia, has a long career in the motorcycle world.
Difficult to know where to start to detail as it swarms with details ... already by the name that is not usurped as it is full of carbon parts, noble material par excellence, such as BST wheels for example or parts of dressing.
The engine, for its part, has been completely restored and prepared for the onions, including Wiseco pistons. It is also possible to modify the inside of the cylinder head with aluminum parts to play on the compression ratio. The feed is entrusted to 28 Stage 6 R / T carbons and carbon intake valves.
As for the chassis, it is equipped with an Öhlins fork from an Aprilia RSV 1000, while the Swedish damper is also powered by an oscillating arm pinned on a 2008 Yamaha R6.
Just a small point on the instrumentation of the RD 350 LC Crazy Carbon, it comes from G.P.T. D2 and has a KOSO supplement that indicates the temperature of each cylinder at any time.

So ? Do you fall in love?

This photo looks odd, though. :smt017

Good point - the cap would work on a stock car. You'd think it would dribble a bit following a fill up. Can't recall any track bikes with this set up - could be wrong.

I think it's just a mocked up endurance style dry break on the outside of the tank, doubles as a fuel level sight glass. It looks half full at the moment (or half empty if you use google translate).

Weren’t they used back in the day on endurance race bikes. They would fit cones inside the ring to make the tank bigger or smaller so all bikes ran the same amount of fuel.
I had a Moto-Martin framed CBX1000 yoinks ago and it had this on the tank. The previous owner told me it was for changing the tank volume. I dunno. That’s what I was told it was for. :)

I know what a dry break valve is.

I'm asking why it looks fake? :smt017

Thanks, tacky!

Makes perfect sense, now.

Not a dry break. Just a site window, which is cool since the bike doesn't have a fuel level gauge.

I like it a lot. Would be a drag, if it leaks, though.

What is the sheet metal for, that's riveted to the frame?

Can't figure it out from the pics.

Good question! Might be a piece to stop his boot hitting the frame when kicking out the starter...

Thats the compliance plate.

Full fairing RD/RZs have them here, the unfaired ones have them on the headstock, they moved it so you can see it easily and read the frame number and proof its roadworthy.
