Micron exhaust pipe position

#1 Post by LC Cnd » Sun Oct 18, 2015 5:07 pm

Having issues with the centre stand smacking the microns when the pipes hung on the inside of the bracket. Solution - move them to the outside as photo'd . Now the microns look splade out, hmm. Where the microns only used by allowing side stand use only?

Mine hang on the outside and not running a center stand. The silencers are pointing somewhat outwards. Would be interested if mine are hung incorrectly.

My guess is that they were meant for the inside - looks cleaner.

Interestingly when I review rebuild photos, the pipe hangers on on the inside with the centre stand attached- abeit a broken centre stand later replaced. Looked at this video and noted the pipes on the inside on its center stand. Must have something to do with the flange rotation at the exhaust ports. Back to the bike.

Im not sure what the mounting flanges look like. Can the pipes be easily rotated about the flange? If you have access to a grinder with a zip it disc and a welder, you could cut the rear mounting bracket off, rotate the pipes and reattach the bracket. That way you could set the bracket behind the rearset and still get a decent pipe position. I did this for my stock pipes so that they cleared my fat rear tire.

They should be on the inside. If the centre stand still fits when you install new pipes, the new pipes are $h!t. The pipes need to be mounted centrally for cornering clearances. The new ones should be larger than stock, or the performance increase just isn't worth the change. Just my $0.02.

That's why they make race stands.

Good pipes are worth loss of the centre stand

Because it's about performance, not convenience.

Be saving up for TSA's next, cash flow permitting. Was able to rotate the pipes, but the centre stand frickin touching against the inside of the Microns. Inside it is - cleaner lines. Left pipe is on the outside as noted in the photo. Not for long.

Sighhhh.
Microns FIT on the inside of the Ali bracket. Truth is they don't fit overly well 'stock' Badly made ? OR crap assembly Jig, as a guess.
. I've cut off the mount bracket made a fresh one , rewelded it on
so the Microns fit"perfectly', nice 'n tight to the frame NO touching and the Slip fit joints are concentric and free to move. .
They Do not as made/sold.

TSA pipe's, while pretty, offer only Small Power advantages over Microns ALL brochure babbles /bs aside.
Microns Are noisy though and Do need repeated repackings

With regard to re-packing the Microns Bare, was told fiberglass building insulation would suffice. Thoughts?
