try packing from moose offroad the string type. i think it used to be called silent sport. house insulation does not last long, unless you enjoy repacking silencers every week or two. with the moose packing i repack my rd every 2500-3000 km.

Noted 2 types - suspect its the competition re-packing your referring to correct? If so, thx for the tip & appears resonably priced. The gent, in the video on pg 1, didn't mention what he used but it sounded effective.

I've bought/used 'special' Packing fluff. While it worked fine, it was Pricey.
However, in Real Life, it was absolutely No better than simple stoopid pink house insulation.
No it Does Not last longer, at least in MY bikes. Dunno Where that came from.
Save some coin, get the itchy pink stuff and swap it out every couple of months.. it helps to keep Officer Friendly away.

Noted in the video the the gent completed his LC re-packing with what appears to be tin foil wrapped about the fiberglass. Is that the norm? Curious as I did not repack my RD200 - just straight baffles.

Seen that one once on an old bike.
Only reason I can imagine is that it Might contain the resultant goop better.
OR possibly that it made it easier to insert the rolled up packing.
Beyond that I've never done it.

just based on personal experience is all.i have used home insulation and it will get you through the weekend if you have a race but the good stuff properly packed(tightly)lasts much longer.but hey to each their own.

Anyone here seen 'how its made'? haha They show the size of that insulation prior to stuffing into the package. You are getting a lot more deadening material with the specificlly made for pipes stuff. Isn't it only $20 or something anyways?

I have heard of people using steel wool. I wonder if that works ok?

Colin that was suggested to me whereby you rap the wool with aluminum door screen for easy application/extraction. Not sure it it would be porous enough, compared to fibreglass (not sure if that's an issue) but interesting idea.

All this concern over stuffing Cans.
Just Do it :-)
Dunno what others experiences are but in 30 years of doing this, House insulation works fine.
Albeit I change it every 2~3 months..overkill actually, but cheap/easy
Cut a piece, roll it over the stinger tube and insert. Not Rocket Science, it should take less than 5 mins per can.

Went for the FMF packing to see how it holds out. Interestingly it resembles the household pink stuff which have in storage Bare. Hmm. $14 probably the cheapest thing I'll buy for a 4LO. I note in the FMF install instructions, it recommended using hi temp silicone to seal the silencers. Can't see using it on the micro (older) behind the c clips at the end - really is it necessary to retain to silicone sealed for back pressure leaks?

SpecII pipes have an aluminum 'can' that bolts to the end of the pipe, and there's spring at the bottom that the baffle seats on. The baffle is retained at the end by an internal snap ring in the end of the can. If I don't use silicon on the bottom of the can where it bolts to the pipe there is a never ending line of spooge on the pipe. I don't seal it at the snap ring end and get no mess.
Don't pack the glass too tightly.

Yup FMF ....same stuff I bought / used.
Pink Glass works every bit as well... on MY bike
One can buy a lot of it for Very little.
Important that.. as Microns need repacking often to avoid Officer Friendly's attentions
Can't imagine slathering the Orange Silycone Goop on though.
That crap didn't even work on the pipe gasket end.. despite several attempts. Seems the hot oil turns it to dripping orange Jelly..
So much for the Brochure Babbles.
Been meaning to try the greeny gray Rockwool insulation for repacking.
Much denser, thicker, also mo' $ than the pink fiberglass.

Bare what have you been using to clean out the chambers? I was advised varsol or Kerosene but advised that both leave combustible vapours behind. Was told to use "The Blue Stuff" found at Lordco - some sorta alkaloid cleaner.

Dunno... Don't clean them
Most all residue oils seem to get blown out soon enough... I think?
