what to do with it ?
what to do with it ?
I have 'spare' 82 LC (with valid papers) half disassembled.
Plus at least a half dozen large boxes of mostly duplicate bits.
Initially destined as an Ersatz TZ project, but enthusiasm has faded.
I need the garage space for other things.. including my 600rr.
Trying to decide What to do with it?
- Break it for parts ?
- Stick it back together ? Engine needs a rebuild though; bore/pistons & crank, (annoyingly it's spare cranks need rebuilding too)
- Sell it as is?
- Actually build the intended TZ copy? Wouldn't solve my space issues though
Not looking for buyers, merely collective thoughts.. so far.

Re: what to do with it ?
Put it away someplace that isn't under foot and do the project when you have the time and desire. That last part is most important. If, after a while, you find that you just don't care about it, then move it on to someone else that does care and has the desire. Otherwise you are just a collector of parts. I have some experience with this.
Re: what to do with it ?
If you are gonna put it away, make sure the steel/iron parts of the motor are well oiled up, otherwise they rust.

I would say when it has sat without being touched for 3 years its time to move it on.
But I don't keep bikes around forever, I like to change them up.

Re: what to do with it ?
Stick it back together so it takes up less space and none of the bits get lost, then find a spot for it somewhere. You will kick yourself if you let it go now, then decide down the road that the TZ project was worth pursuing...

Yep, dust sheet over it cant do any harm, especially if funds arent tight.

Re: what to do with it ?
LC will be hard to part with the USA not getting them. At least would need to do a lot of international shipping. Darn cranks are weaknesses on 2-strokes.
Re: what to do with it ?
Thanks for the thoughts.
Pore old '82 has been taking space for ~8 years.
Building a 'sorta' TZ involves serious work/$ for a worth the effort result.
Not a trivial adventure. Think of the DIY effort for making an Ali TZ tank
I do have a sparkly 81' Lc mitt 1ua motor and "most" of the go faster upgrades
Which itself isn't getting Much use.
Likely be a better TZ start point, be a shame to mess it though.
Too many toys.. not enough time.

Re: what to do with it ?
With the LC's price going up , I'm putting back together a part bike that I have . I have no project for it at the moment so I'm
just bolting it loose and setting it aside in the basement , I can live with that .

Re: what to do with it ?
that's why its hard to finish the RZ350 stroker and putting the LC back together when I have been riding the Ducati ST4 all summer ...all over the place...Hooligan wrote:I have a project bike been sitting in my basement since 2007.2smoke wrote:I would say when it has sat without being touched for 3 years its time to move it on.

Re: what to do with it ?
I've got one in my garage that I've been working on that long....Hooligan wrote:I have a project bike been sitting in my basement since 2007.2smoke wrote:I would say when it has sat without being touched for 3 years its time to move it on.

I also have a 65 year old army Jeep that I've owned for more than a third of its life (and more than half of mine!) and I've never driven it.
It'll all get done, freedom is on the horizon (convincing nobody but myself). Definitely need to finish something before starting anything else, but if the right 500 came along....
I'd keep it Bare, spend a day bolting stuff back together and see if the interest sparks back up, if not it's easier to move around or flog.
Re: what to do with it ?
I have another in bits and figured it would be worth more assembled and some money for the Missus if I pop my clogs early

Re: what to do with it ?
What wheels are those!? I want!
Re: what to do with it ?
Kawasaki KR1S 250
The rear is an 18 incher though and a freaky size tyre 140-60-18
Only Bridgestone seem to do them now and maybe not for much longer. (I have a couple Aprilia RS 250 rear wheels (17 inch) when the tyres are no longer available, but look a bugger to fit)
I love the wheels too and have them on my red bike
