YPVS Exhausts

#1 Post by Bacon2002 » Thu Dec 31, 2015 10:34 am

Hi,
I am new to the forum so hello to everyone.
I am looking for some advice with regards a couple of RD350LC I am rebuilding. In fact one is a Japanese imported RZ350LC - 4U0 which I have owned for 25+ years and the other is UK / Euro RD350LC - 4L0 which I am building up.
My plan is to end up with one standard bike and one Hybrid bike (RGV front end, wheels and brakes) which hopefully I will use to ride to work occasionally in the summer.
When I started stripping down the RZ350LC (its been in the shed for 15+ years) I noticed that the exhausts (standard type) appear to be off a YPVS LC2, I say this as they have 31K 14711 stamped on them and not 4L0.
Back in the day I hadn't noticed that the exhaust were not correct as they seemed to fit OK. I recall it was a pretty quick bike in that it was easily as fast as my friends tuned bikes.
Now I'm not saying it was fast because of the exhausts but I am curious as whether this is common (31K exhausts on a 4L0 bike) or perhaps because my bike is a Japanese bike maybe it just all seemed to fit and work?
It got me thinking if anyone knew what (if any) are the differences are between 4L0 and 31K exhausts.
Many thanks,
David

JonW,
You are quite right I meant 31K 14711 (corrected my original post).

Different cigars that I have seen with my own eyes.
Smaller end diameter, presumably from the 250
Normal larger end I presume are all 350
Cigars from an rz 31k can be made to fit and lc 4l0, and vice versa, but requires a bit of bashing, and drilling, or if your handy with a welder the bracket /rear mounting hole will have to move forward or back about 20mm, pending on what your swapping from to. As the rz cigar rear mounting bracket is positioned slightly further towards the rear.
31k stamped cigars are awesome, but who knows if they are internally different, to the 4L0 cigars.
It is rumoured the early 250 cigars had more restriction internally.
They are all internally baffled (about half way along) ( were the large spot welds are located).
For bottom end and driveability the cigars are a fantastic pipe and out perform many aftermarket pipes.
Clean the removable rear baffles, and throw the baffling gauze away as all it does is collect oil.
The cigars are a great pipe.
