Hello from Canada Folks

#1 Post by LCanuck » Thu Jul 04, 2019 7:14 pm

Hey all, new to forum so I thought I’d say hello..
47 yr old Canadian here, just picked up an ‘81 RD350LC.
Bit of a story...
I’m into older Yammie resurrections, cafed an ‘81 Virago and restored an ‘82 Seca 750 last year..
I picked up the Seca from an old fella who lived in northern Ontario, in a trailer home.
Tiny lean-to shed...when I went inside, lo and behold was an ‘81 Rd350LC that he was still driving. I asked if that was for sale and he respectfully declined lol..
However, this weekend, he called to say that he was willing to let it go..sucked a mouse nest through it and he didn’t want to fix..
So I immediately drove 4 hours, and picked it up, along with, spare engine, frame, pipes, and two boxes of parts, many still packaged...
Total cost $900 Can.
Top end needs refresh, but new Yamaha rings and gaskets included in the boxes!
Body is a little rough, tank the worst, but I like doing bodywork...
Here’s a couple pics if I can upload..
PS...he is the original owner, bought her brand new...
I’ll be picking your brains in the near future!

Nice catch!

You've got a bunch of work to do but it will all be worthwhile in the end. The spare motor is well worthwhile and spare parts are generally good. Spare frame is not worth much sadly.

Yambits and LC Crazy in the UK are both good sources for parts and shipping from UK is surprisingly inexpensive.

Yes, I ordered a bunch of items from LC crazy..Norbo was great to deal with...
Couldn’t believe my parts arrived one day after pickup from him..$130 to ship was well worth it..
Got the top end finished last night and she is purring away...
Moving onto the bodywork now.
I’ll get some pics up sometime soon.
Took it for a quick zip down the street, I can’t wait to get her looking great, licensed and on the road.

I’m a happy camper....
Successfully conquered not one, but 2 oil leaks today, one injector and one tranny oil.

Culprits were the shift shaft seal and the autolube pump plunger seal...

Best thing was, both seals were in the box of miscellaneous parts I received when I bought the bike. New in package. Bikes been sitting all day with white paper under it and not so much as a micro drop.👍
