Brake pad shim

#1 Post by Angus McL » Sat Apr 23, 2016 9:00 pm

The shim that goes between the brake pad and the piston, was that common to other models as well? Or was it 4L0 only? And are they critical?

I had 4 and can only find one now. Will be calling the shop on Monday and see what they can get for me I guess.

Thanks,

A.

I dont think I have ever seen one on any of my 350's, No problems with my brakes, I believe its an anti-squeal shim... Im on number 7 at the moment...

I had them on the calipers that came off the bike in the fall, and also in the spare set of calipers I got with the bike.

If they're just for anti-squeal, then not as much of an issue. I'll put them together as-is and get replacements and install if I need them.

Thanks,

A.

Came with OEM brake pad sets back in the day, not on new stuff. if you really want them you can find OEM NOS sets on ebay etc.

Those shims are generally anti-squeel.

...and they should be chucked. You don't need them. If your brakes squeal, grab harder.

I`m using them on my 85 31K, they are not as big as the brake piston.
I guess they should put more load on the rear side of the pads (in disc rotating direction) to avoid that they have more wear on the front side.
