4LO Tool kit

#1 Post by LC Cnd » Thu May 12, 2016 1:42 am

Took 2 yrs but found that pesky 4mm allen key to complete my kit (thx Russ for your generosity). Thought the mono shock wrench was the tricky one - nope. Still scratching my head as to what the 4mm if for... B ck'n the manual.

Wahooooooooooo! Well done Scott!

If you remember my post about the fuel cap a while back I reckon the quest for the right toolkit comes under the same heading and marks you out as one cool dude, if people think like me... or a sad anorak with too much time on their hands if youre everyone else. IMHO the world needs people like us. :D Who else would go to this trouble to find a part that you dont even see. perfect reason to do it if you ask me :)

Actually, u got me beat there Jon. The next quest is a Guiliari seat (which u have a lovely example of) and the bk fills for that clap-trap (lol) pro-am fairing; that's what a 3D printer is 4. The seat, well got a stock one but a Gully will probably b another 2+ yr of prospecting. Looking for RD bits minds me of gps Geo-cashing - part of the addictive adventure I frankly did not expect. Suspect my lovely wife will sign me up for RD/RZ-rehab hunting for a seat. Also suspect the next thrill will be the power band once break-in complete. Thx to all those who have helped - great community here bar none.

haha, well, maybe...
Ahh the elusive (these days) Gully seat and (always elusive) infills... good luck mate, rather you that me! :)
In many ways geocaching would be better, at least you know something exists, you just have to find it. I always wonder when the day will come when we eventually run out of parts, it has to happen, right?
Yes community spirit help makes this insane pursuit seem at least partly normal as well as helping with parts, tho I often think some of my friends have become enablers... ;) :D

I'll take your advice here Jon and count myself lucky that my bike has the original alloy fuel cap :smt001

However I don't have the original toolkit, only the made up Suzuki one :smt018

Credit goes to Xavier's site https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 9774,d.cGc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) under "All RD350LC's" for the reference to obtain the correct tools. Attached is a photo of what I was able to collect to get a complete set for others to hopefully do the same. Here's the bits you'd be hunting for:

Closed 19mm/22mm wrench
Closed 22mm wrench with metal handle extension
Metal black topped screwdriver handle
Phillps/standard reverable screwdriver bit
Larger Phillps screwdriver bit
Allen keys black - 4mm, 5mm, 6mm (stamped KKT)
open ended wrench 8mm/10mm
2 open ended 10mm/12mm
open ended wrench 14mm/17mm
OEM expandable pliers
Spark plug socket (17mm-21mm openings)
Mono shock wrench
tool bag embossed "Yamaha" flap with white flat string

The RZ kit is identical except for the shock wrench. Good luck to all interested - they"re out there.

I admire your commitment to authenticity. That 'metal handle extension' makes me smile, I remember the first time I opened my tool kit, I thought someone had left it in there as a 'cheater' for the allen keys, it never occurred to me that something that rudimentary could have been put there by Yamaha. It was only recently that someone posted a picture of the full tool kit and I thought, 'are you kidding me, that actually came with the bike?'.

Russ I thought the simplist tool known to man was "the wedge". You reminded me I was dead wrong - its a squished tube. Kinda reminds me of using a rock for a hammer - ha, to squish a tube and go motorcycling. Genius.

Amusingly someone had thrown out the one in my kit, I reckon they thought it was just there for packing... well, its not like they saw it and thought they should keep it when the sold the bike, in case it came in handy LOL!

(FWIW Scott has hooked me up with said tube now, my kit is getting closer.... only the 12/14 needed now... :/ )
