RZ stator on LC crank?

#1 Post by evan_calgary » Wed Jul 27, 2016 2:45 am

Question from one of my Indian friends that is not a member here...Can the RZ stator/rotor/cdi be used on a LC? Much more readily available...

ive done it the other way round, and can see no reason why you couldnt do it that way.

The crank taper is identical.
Don't know if the key position is the same - this will need a timing check with a strobe.
Next issue is the stator mounting. That may need a rework of the mounting holes and maybe an axial spacer if the stator is not fully diving into the rotor.

Electrically it'll work. People have successfully used the LC CDI on later RZ's.
The 12V part will work anyway as the 31K and 4L0 rectifier/regulator is identical.

Thanks all.

The LC rotor of course needs to be be adjusted to have timing set whereas the RZ rotor has a fixed position. Sounds like it will work though.

Cheers!

The keyway is the same I reckon, I never had any issues bolting on, tho i did +4 they keyway and elongate the holes as I wanted more static angle, but that was for my 421 build.

Basic advantages would be (imo) in seting up a Zeel.
Which on an LC pretty well involves inserting one's thumb up their fundamental orfice while holding their breath.
While on an RZ simply plugging it in and kickstarting
OR being able to fit an RZ CDI which has a usable ignition curve whereas the LC simply doesn't

Point was more availability with all the banshee stuff out there. My friend is in India where LC parts are not available but banshee are.

Banshee stator/rotors are are a sketchy choice on a Lc /RZ.
These are entirely different designs electrically (missing coils) and unlikely to work.. unless perhaps fitting an entire Banshee electrical system.
Easier to have a failed LC Stator rewound imo.

Hello enthusiasts, i'm punith from india.
thanks evan_calgary, for posting my queries.

hey guys, i'm doing a LC 4L0 conversion for my air cooled RD.
currently i have LC top end from evan, LC crank, LC clutch basket and radiator.

it looks like LC ignition side crank tapper is different than the air cooled one. hence no air cooled magneto is fitting it.
hence i'm in the hunt for LC aftermarket ignition.
one of the easily available ignition kit is from powerdynamo germany.

has anybody used powerdynamo before on a LC?
if so can anyone help me out in choosing the MZB model for LC 4L0.

There he is! Maybe try and start a new post with your second question Punith.

Guys, this lad is quite the bike enthusiast and working on a conversion, seems quite mechanically adept and working with limited parts.

Punith, be sure to do some reading around here as there is tons and tons of information. I suspect many of the questions you will have are already answered.

I would ask on Norbos forum Punith, youre more likely to find info about a European ignition unit on there I would think, or contact MK on here, he knows a lot about ignitions and I believe is either German or speaks German, so is probably on a German forum where someone may have tried it.

I dont see why you dont fit a standard RZ ignition really... the taper on the LC is the same as the ypvs models, as I said before I have an LC stator/flywheel on my 421 which has an RZ bottom end with a banshee crank. you can read about that bike in the link in my sig if you want, but ive never put an RZ stator on an LC so cant say 100% it will work as i said above, but im 99.9% sure it would....
