introduction and a question
introduction and a question
Hello all
I owned an 82 model back when these things were new. That one was sold around 1990 due to having too many bikes.
I regretted selling it and bought a used 81 model about 15 years back but only rode it a few times. Life and other interests
got in the way so the bikes went in a tarp shed in the backyard and were forgotten. Now this foolish old man wants to relive
part of his youth and maybe pull a few wheelies (I did say foolish lol). The bike has suffered from poor storage so it all starts
with a tear down.
Question. What's the parts situation ? Obvious and immediate needs are rubber parts such as intake/carb mounts and gaskets
for the engine tear down. Does Yamaha stock parts or failing that are there any other reliable sources ?
Thanks for reading and for any help.

Welcome old man, many here are considering carbon fibre handles for their walking sticks, or swapping batteries for a 2 stroke in their mobility devices.
Google is your friend.
No end or limit to aftermarket/performance parts that will keep you little gem running.
If you want a perfect OEM restoration a little patience may be required to find the odd elusive part.

I'd rather ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow.

Re: introduction and a question
Heh, I should have guessed this a geezers hangout.
Spotted on a local Yamaha dealers website:
"You don't stop riding because you get old, you get old because you stop riding"
We'll see.
Thanks for the link to microdaddy, it's overseas but a specialist by looks of things. Okay prices as well.

Re: introduction and a question
Yama dealers (IF you can find one.. no Joke that, as they are dissapearing V quickly)
With the aid of an experienced Partsman..(avoid new hires) Can supply most ALL the parts for an LC.

Re: introduction and a question
Always helps to call dealer with part numbers as well. Its a real pain trying to get them to find the LC in their fiches.
Re: introduction and a question
I agree with Evan. I always go in with a part number to give them. Everything is at least a week away, but they've been able to get just about everything I've been looking for.
The other source is Norbo in Mark's link. It all comes from the UK, so takes time, but he's got the best aftermarket/reproduction stuff.

Re: introduction and a question
Just ordered two Yamaha parts today, fm my local Yamie dealer, and in on Wed. I printed off this parts catalogue fm England and its acurate here in Canada. Not all the parts are available (NLA) so I went to Norbo and Yambits. Just a warning, I purchased a foot peg rubber cover, fm Yambits, and it tore before I even had it on the road - not every Yambit part had gone this way. Postage is a killer fm Europe but the parts are there. Norbo has quality but you have to pay his paypal seller's levy (5%). So I bought OEM, which is more expensive, but hopefully will be better quality and usually is. Here's the link for downloading & welcome to the form: https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q= ... 6987,d.cGc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It will take a minute to download but worth it. Often form members have parts squired away (especially in Canada) and will sell them (sometimes given freely!) when we forget why we even have 'em or just get tired of lost space. There is a bit ribbing/banter over topics here but I have yet to see it get vicious yet. Great/helpful form - welcome to it.
Re: introduction and a question
Thanks for the parts list LC Cnd, it's way more legible than the scanned microfiche I found elsewhere.
I half expected the local Yamaha dealer to get snide about my old bike but it wasn't that way at all. The parts guy even apologized for the
$148 price for a pair of carb mounts, honestly they're 70 Pounds at microdaddy so it's probably a near saw-off.
I've got the top of the motor off and as expected the years of storage have taken a toll. Plenty more questions to come but that will be a new thread.

Re: introduction and a question
Maylasia is possibly another great source for the carb mounts - the members Down Under would probably know more about the reliablity/quality of those parts. I've only ordered helmet decals fm Malaysia only.
