Proper jetting for Micron exhausts
Re: Proper jetting for Micron exhausts
IF that's the intent... Just weld the sliders together. NO leaks.
Re: Proper jetting for Micron exhausts
Obtained some Permatex to see how it goes. One issue I had was I could not thread the bolts onto the studs with the metal o-ring gaskets in place. As an experiment, took out the crush rings gaskets and made seals out of gaskets paper. Read, back in the '80's, lads use to make them out of cereal boxes soaked in 2-stroke oil as a quick fix. Interestingly the pipe heads fit neatly into the exhaust port and tightened down the bolts without an issue - not sure if this is proper but it works. Though the Microns are tight, both pipes have some lateral movement at the flange joint - suspect thats from years of wear and the need for gasket sealer.

Did your stock pipes fit with the metal crush rings?
I know they supercede the original 4L0 exhaust gaskets but they are different...

Yes Colin the stock spanies did come with the metal rings and fit well. That why I was a bit confused with the Microns.
Update: the copper petmatex sealed the deal after the fire up. No drips to date.

Re: Proper jetting for Micron exhausts
For what it's worth I've used Ultra Copper on more challenging applications than exhaust flanges and it has always setup overnight, sealed well and stayed pliable. On my SpecII pipes it still gives them some freedom of movement without having black spooge everywhere.

Interesting .. My engine must be jetted far richer than yours .
My permatex orange turned to molasses and dripped out in V short time. Twice!
Silly-cone orange is not Gasoline tolerant.
Of small note: the resultant Goop from the slider joint is surprisingly small.
despite zero sealant Goo and easily is wiped up in seconds.
Those slider joints are ...intended.. to Slide in /out under back pressure variances.
Springs aren't there simply as decoration.
