A friend left my house this morning continuing his epic tour on a LC. He plans close to 5000miles in 21 days.

Brilliant photo. Captures the essence of moment perfectly.

That's how we used to do things back in the good old days. Load up whatever bike you had and head off on a journey without much concern about the possibilty of a breakdown. Pretty much care free and living in the moment. I do miss those days and the simplicity and pure enjoyment of it all. Now I find myself worried about running into mechanical problems every time I leave the garage on a 2 stroke.

Perhaps we all need to load up one more time and hit the road to see where it takes us.

I agree with you John, wish I could have gone with him. About half way thru his trip he will meet up with three other riders. Two will be riding GT750s and the third will be on a new Bonnie.

Back in 1982 a buddy of mine and I rode from the East Coast of Australia(me from Sydney and mate Don from Melbourne) to
Perth West Australia over a Christmas break three week period.
I was on a Suzuki gsx1100 and Don on a Kawasaki GT750.
When we were coming up the coast of South Australia(Mount Gambier) we came across a young bloke with a rd250lc( with 350cc conversion) stopped on the side of the road.
We stopped and checked he was OK and he said the motor had "tightened" up on him.
I had a look at a few things to check nothing obvious had happened but it all seemed OK.
We gave it 20 minutes and it fired up no problem and we said we would follow him to make sure he got to the next town.
We got to the next town, we stopped and asked where he was heading as he was all loaded up with camping gear, he was also heading to West Australia as he had got a redundancy payment from his work and he was off on a trip and the Red light district of Kalgoorlie was where he was heading!
Anyway, the three of us travelled together for the next 2600klms with no mechanical problems, including a flat out section
on the Nullarbor where it appeared a rd350lc was quicker than a loaded GT750 Kawasaki !!

So yes you can tour on a rd350lc. :smt045

PS Learner rider laws back then said you had to ride a 250cc, so he had a 250cc with bigger barrels and it looked like a 250cc!Lots did it!

Oh crap, I went everywhere in the eighties on my LC. Loaded it up and took off. All I cared about was having a spare bottle of injector and a couple of plugs.
Don't like the bags and screen.

Not sure exactly Rory as I believe he is meeting two Suzuki GT750 riders heading south from Canada at the border. He's now in Wyoming near Teton Pass. Once they all meet up, they'll head south as a group making way to Florida. There will be a magazine article of this mega 2 stroke tour in one of the vintage/ classic motorcycle magazines.

@evansje1 and Frank Tarpley- can you supply more details?
