Carb needle replacement

#1 Post by LC Cnd » Thu Aug 17, 2017 1:48 pm

Having an issue with right carb possibly leaking fuel via the carb float valve needle on Mikuni 26vv. The standard ones are metal tipped but I have seen the rubber tipped ones but I believe they are too tall or thin for the valve seat to properly level the carb float(s). The only other answer is to use high grit valve lap compound to have the float valve needle mate with the seat possibly. As noted in the pic, there is a difference in size. Is there a set of rubber tipped valve needles that works in 26mm carbs?

Rubber tipped float needles are Durable. Examine the rubber for visible damages. If there is none it's "good'
Brass valve seat can be refurbed :-) Drop a suitably sized ball bearing into the hole.
Tap it with a Drift and wee hammer. Doing so reforms the valve seat nicely.
No need for a fresh one.. pretty well ever, once you've mastered the BB trick
