LC SEPERATE CYLINDERS WHY

I wonder why Yamaha made the cylinders left and right when they could of been a single casting ,
i beleive the TZ is a single unit .
i dont see a cost saving ?

My guess is its cheaper somehow to make them separate.

Yes maybe the tz cylinders were cast in one unit because the bores were plated . Lc cylinders have iron liners.

There could be all kinds of non parts manufacturing reasons. It might be easier to assemble the engines with separate cylinders, or take less skill/precision to do it without the risk of failure. Mass production assembly versus race department low volume assembly, time matters. Maybe they were trying to keep warranty costs down, why replace 2 cylinders when only one failed? Boring and honing single cylinders in mass production would definitely be cheaper from an investment point of view, and as mentioned above iron liners could play into it as well. They would be cast in, which wouldn't be a challenge, but machining the bottom would be a more costly process than a mass production single. Pennies (Yen) saved on each bike add up when you are building tens or hundreds of thousands.
