Lc exhaust flange
Lc exhaust flange
Can anyone confirm that the exhaust flange on the header pipe is flush with the header pipe to gasket mating surface?
Hopefully I have explained that well enough.
The reason I ask is that one pipe is flush and the other has the pipe recessed into the flange, making it tough to get a proper seal on the crush collar gasket.
I think someone swapped out the pipes at some point.

Re: Lc exhaust flange
they need rings making up to force the pipe into the gasket when you do the flange up.

Re: Lc exhaust flange
One flange is flush and the other is 1/8” proud. So regardless of how much the nuts are torqued down on new crush gaskets there is play. So I think I will machine down the proud flange and try that
It kind of messed up the performance having one exhaust not operating properly, which make sense.

Re: Lc exhaust flange
or you could make up the rings like i said... but your call. OEM these came with rings that force the pipe to stick out, they die and fall off tho. coathanger wire works, i suggest you find the fattest ones in the wardrobe. Thats what I used just the other week on mine.

Re: Lc exhaust flange
Are you using the LC crush gaskets? I used YPVS crush gaskets in their place. Hold up much better.

Re: Lc exhaust flange
Sounds like you have a mix of early model and later model pipes. They differ exacty as you have stated.
Buy aftermarket pipes.
The stock ones sound awful and there is such a boost in performance.

Re: Lc exhaust flange
The coat hanger fix will work just dandy and save a lot of messing around.
Unless I use plastic ones.......

Not to mention, with the age of the stock pipes and the fact that everyone runs too rich, if you decide to keep the stockers, clean them out. They are likely all bungged up with old oil. See if you can get them dipped at a metal stripper. Or try pouring kerosene or diesel fuel into them. Plug up both ends and swish them around to clean them out. They will perform much better after a good cleaning.

Re: Lc exhaust flange
I had them boiled out in a dip tank at a radiator shop to do exactly that.

Re: Lc exhaust flange
John did you use a shop in Cumberland or Courtenay?
Re: Lc exhaust flange
I used the rad shop in courtenay.
Jonw, the coathanger fix worked perfectly, I did up the game somewhat and used some brazing rod I had. Thanks for the tip.
