G'day. The lc suffered a soft seize due to a missing reed block gasket, the left cylinder had an air leek leading to seize during run in. Since the cylinders where allready at 66mm i went on the hunt for replacements. I ended up buying a complete 250 engine fitted with 350 barrells, fresh 65mm bore with wiseco pro light pistons, Also had rebuilt oem crank. Today i finnished rebuilding the bike. Now it runs the 250 cases, fresh lc crank, the replacement cylinders with wiseco's and the original 350 transmission and clutch assemble. so it's back on the road. looking at replacing the front forks with rz items and buying a hagon rear shock. otherwise i'm witing for mirrors and indicators then paint the bike. I'm really enjoying the Lc.

Congrats on your perseverance to get back on the road again. No better feeling I imagine from the challanges faced with engine issues. Original mirrors are hens teeth-ish but the aftermarket ones will suffice as I purchased a set (European style) from Yambits. Yet postage was almost the cost of the mirrors then I found originals (lol).

good info thanks Bare. I own a 79 xs750 that would also like some fresh bits from mikes xs. think i'll order some emulators for the rz forks whilst i'm there.

The XS was the 1st shaft driven bike (sliver/blue) I've rode - belong to my brother. Having it pop up from the middle upon acceleration was a unique feeling. Like Jon, the yellow was the most attachive to me. Next is mars bar coloring which is my current paint project (Cnd 82 colours). I think most people recall the yellow speed block image of a Yamie as reto-competitive. Nice job on the XS Graham.

Been working on the lc. Tank and panels are at the painters, engine is on the bench being rebuilt after painting barrells atc.
About to put the head back on and noticed the copper head gasket that was on the bike has deformed around the combustion chamber. No problem i thought i will order an ome gasket. Yamaha Australia told me gasket 4l0-11181-09 Nla. Found some on the net and borrowed one from a local lc owner till order arrives. This is my first oem lc gasket and unlike the many .7mm thick rz350 gaskets i have bought the lc gasket is 1.3mm thick.
With the .6 copper gasket and head shaved the engine had 1mm squish. The new gaaket will obviously enlargen the squish which is not ideal. The head is nearly shaved down to the edge of the bowl, i can't see how i can back to the 1mm squish without going to copper gasket again. Migbt need to order a slightly thicker one to minimize distortion. Hope to have bime back
On the road by sunday. Image

Hah! I have a set of grips on mine that look identical to yours. I also have those same slotted disks.
Inlet side of Piston skirt has been shortened
This is simply a function of running RZ pistons in LC jugs. Its not a performance mod.

Looks great!

On the plus side, the larger squish will add years to your engine's top end life. Shaved heads on the LCs were like making your engine a time bomb.

Put the bike back together after a tidy up and paint job. Just need to check over everything and add the fluids. Pretty happy with how it's turned out. Just need to ride it. ImageImageImageImage

Can you school me on this rory? How does it make it a time bomb? Won't it make more power?
I thought .9mm is ideal squish? or at least it is on an rz. cooler piston edge, flame burn to the centre and more complete? higher compression? Where does this put undue stress in the engine?
I know you've run plenty of lc's what squish do you run?
I read in the Australian tz forum that guys racing the 250lc's used to lap the cyclinders to the head and run no gasket with .75-.8mm squish.
Can't get my head around a 1,2mm 3 layer oem gasket and having a squish with stock head at nearly 2mm. closer to 1mm would would be better, wouldn't it? I'm here to learn.

:smt001 Yup the 37 hp ..which is what the Factory Reduced Compression setup generated .. during independent Dyno testings 'back then'.
Lawnboy power Outputs.
Theory is lower stresses could potentially let the engine live a lil longer.. Or it may just seem that way.
Although Not much hard evidence of Shorter than LC engine lives evidenced in RZ engines, which were ultimately of Much reduced squish/ increased compressions.. and ~25 Hp More.

I concentrated on intake and exhaust for power boost. Many friends shaved heads and blew up. The LC does not like that mod. It was not allowed in production racing in Canada. Made for exciting times, big boost, put poor longevity.
Pipes and pods drastically change the LC, as well, with great results for reliability if you jetted accordingly.
