Baffled!

I was browsing the forums trying to figure out why my LC doesn't really pull well into the higher revs well - and is completely missing the kick in the pants above 6K RPM.
I've checked carbs - all is good. Electrics are good. Plugs, etc.
One of the suggestions was that the exhaust pipes might be "carboned-up" - and it recommeded removing the baffles and cleaning them. This made sense to me so I've spent all afternoon trying to remove the baffles from the exhaust pipes.
Despite ruining a couple of pair of vice-grips, I have had no success at all. I've soaked the ends inpenetrating oil and have tried heating the exhaust - nothing works.
At this point I'm wondering if they will ever come out - and whether theres any other way to clean the inside of the LC Pipes?
I was even thinking of taking the pipes of the bike, standing them upright with the tips covered and puring some kind of cleaning agent in them so that the carbon could could soak from the inside.
I was wondering if anyone had expereinced anything similar and had any advice?
Thanks.
Chris
