Baffled!

I was browsing the forums trying to figure out why my LC doesn't really pull well into the higher revs well - and is completely missing the kick in the pants above 6K RPM.

I've checked carbs - all is good. Electrics are good. Plugs, etc.

One of the suggestions was that the exhaust pipes might be "carboned-up" - and it recommeded removing the baffles and cleaning them. This made sense to me so I've spent all afternoon trying to remove the baffles from the exhaust pipes.

Despite ruining a couple of pair of vice-grips, I have had no success at all. I've soaked the ends inpenetrating oil and have tried heating the exhaust - nothing works.

At this point I'm wondering if they will ever come out - and whether theres any other way to clean the inside of the LC Pipes?

I was even thinking of taking the pipes of the bike, standing them upright with the tips covered and puring some kind of cleaning agent in them so that the carbon could could soak from the inside.

I was wondering if anyone had expereinced anything similar and had any advice?

Thanks.

Chris

sounds like they are very carboned up.

The beat way to remove these is with heat, penetrating oil and patience. You could try some oven cleaner as well, but what you need is to get them to rotate in the pipe and its that slip joint that gummed up I suspect.

Ive had stubborn ones before, you just need to let products like penetrating oils and oven cleaners get in there and soften the oil and carbon mix.

I'd also look at your exhaust ports while the pipes are off, no doubt they will be thick with build up.
If your plugs are black I'd clean your air filter, pull your carbs, check jets are correct, reset float levels consider lifting your clips one notch and rebalance your carbs.
Not getting above 6000 revs and blocked oily pipes would suggest your a bit on the rich side.

Not revving can also be a symptom of stuck rings. How fresh is the engine?

Being pipes you can likely get fairly aggressive. Are you using a propane torch? Over cleaner likely a good idea or some heavy degreaser to soak the whole slilencer in? Likely have to repaint but if they are that stuck...
