A couple pictures of my project bike**Now finished!!
.
Okay, i took some pictures today. It was almost too sunny today, the camera couldnt handle the sun. Better to take pictures of this bike when it is late in the day.
Anyway here is the link to all the pictures and i will post up a few.

So, still a work in progress. I am finishing up the electics right now, then i will be cleaning the carbs and assebling the reeds, carbs etc.
I need to get a rear grab rail and a shift rod.
And i am trying to decide what front brake disks and calipers i want to use.

I am having trouble deciding which way to go with the front brake rotors and calipers. These are early model RZ350 forks and triples. As we know the only option for these forks is caliper adapter brackets.Off Road wrote:+1 on the wheels. They look great with the black paint.
Are you keeping the single disc on the front?
I like the look of the single disc. It makes the bike look lighter, and it shows off the nice gold wheel.
Then i can use whatever i want. I had these fzr rotors here with the right bolt pattern so i bolted one up for grins. I might use them or just crossdrill the stockers. As for calipers i have some R1 blue dots , ducati brembos, and a set of 86-newer RZ350 calipers here to chose from.
And i have a machinist lined up to help.
I would like an upgrade in stopping power and some bling. Once i pick the calipers, i will get a master cylinder to match.
Decisions, decisions
Thanks for the positive feedback guys!

I have finally had some time to take a good look at my 4LO engine and it needs to be completely rebuilt.
The top end is at 66MM(2mm oversize)and the wiseco pistons/bores are damaged. I havent removed the crank but it doesnt look fresh, the rods are pitted where the small end bearings go etc. So it really needs a full rebuild to know where i stand when i ride it next summer.
I have a complete 1UA rz350 motor here that also needs a full rebuild.
So i am trying to decide if i should keep this bike original or go to the more powerful rz motor. I realize the swap is an easy one, just not sure which engine to go with. What do you guys think?
Any input is appreciated.

I went through the same thing, keep it stock or improve it. My original engine had been sold to a banshee person some years ago so I needed an engine. Started out looking for an LC engine but finally decided to go with the RZ engine. I am very happy I went that way as performance is so good. I love the LC look and handling over the RZ and love the RZ performance and performance potential.
'81 RD350LC hybrid w/84 RZ engine. Zeel, Old style Toomeys, Yboot and filter 420 main 22.5 pilot, Air screw 2.5 turns out, DJ needle 2nd from top, Canadian VM26 carbs.

Well..if you are not making it a hybrid..it should stay stock 4LO...If you decide to change the forks and swinger....keep going and update to a rz motor..

I like your ideas guys.
I am definately leaving the bike as you see it in the above pictures. Stock body and skinny wheels..for this summer anyway.
To tell you the truth, i was looking forward to experiencing the non powervalve engine. The harder, later hit in the powerband, and the different idle sound with no powervalve blocking the pipe.
Maybe i should keep the 4LO engine but modify the cases for an rz crank. I could put a stroker crank in, and get the largest diameter wiseco pistons they make! Get the head cut and squish corrected etc....
I have a few good pipe choices here too.

Don't you need to swap everything needed to make the RZ lump work in the RD? Harness, CDI, PV controller, etc? Do you still have thsoe parts, or did they sell on ebay already?
Is there an issue with going over 66 mm with the 4L0 cylinders? Need to rework the head?
I guess it all depends on what you need out of the bike. If it's all stock maybe stick with the stock engine. Resale on the RDLC is climbing fast and original parts will make you more money. If its going to be modified you might as well modify it a lot. You already have the sexy 87RZ and the RZV, so sticking with the 4L0 motor would be my suggestion. Nice to have one of each.
