350LC build with pics

#1 Post by solo 2 » Wed Apr 25, 2012 8:05 pm

It’s about time! Tired of RZ this, RZ that…well, except my 500. :smt003 In the last year and a half I’ve bought 1 running junker, 1 OK roller, and enough parts to build both. The one I’m currently working on will be essentially a stock ground up resto with a couple of motor upgrades on a full +.025 rebuild. The other will be tweeked to the limits of the stock parts, next winters project. Here’s a couple of pics of the mayhem so far, there will be more to come shortly as I’ll be ready to fully assemble by mid May.

Wow everything is so clean! When i get spares its usually stinky old boxes of greasy parts. Old broken off bolts and stuff painted wierd colors!
Looks like good progress on the first bike too.

Lots and lots of cleaning, painting, fixing and replacing. Other than the motors I've essentially taken the best parts of 4 LCs and bought many more. This one will for all purposes be close to new. I do everything except the crank/bores myself, so there's a lot of hours in it.

This is great stuff. I am in the last stages of my LC Mar Bar build. Painted parts back, frame powdercoated satin black, working on cleaning everything, removing bolt rust with vinegar. New BT45's coming. Polishing/painting wheels etc.

I am looking for suggestions for a replacement rear shock for my 250lb butt. Looking at Hagon and other from UK but too expensive with shipping and exchange rate is getting worse.

Any ideas?

Steve, I was thinking of trying YSS a try on my tweeked build. I've read alot of good things about them from people who actually own them and not just giving their opinion. They have a few options depending on the money you want to spend. A good shock is going to cost you no matter who builds it.

Steve, did you know you can get Hagons in the States? $400 for the LC

At least you'll save on the shipping and there'll be no duties.

And for the Canucks http://www.britcycle.com/products/hagon_shocks.htm
They don't have a listing for them but will order them for you, same as above - save shipping & duties.

I came across the Hagon USA site and have sent a message to them.

That looks a great price at today's exchange rate. Wonder if they would do deals on a few? I know postage to me in Aus wont be cheap but if they would do a deal on a couple then we might have a winner?

I will ask if we can get a multiple unit deal. How many do you want?

Well the cylinders and crank are in for honing and rebuild, should be about a week, I'm hopjng to have it together in 2-3 weeks. I took the cylinders to work Friday and trued up the gasket surfaces to the bore and o-ringed them, I'm hoping the squish will be near correct and I'll just have to skim the head a couple thou. Not that it matters, I run a NC lathe so i'm going to write a program for the stock combustion chambers just in case.

Progress is being made! The parts pile is slowly turning into a bike.

Why is it that no matter how many nuts and bolts that come off a bike and how well you store everything you always end up missing some. Is it just me?

I forgot to paint a few pieces so it's delayed me a little, also had to order more parts, seems never ending. On the bright side every time I do this I get more organized...only 3 bikes in pieces right now :smt003

Here's some more pics. The front wheel is just a temp as it doesn't have a tire on it right now.

Looks great!
Listen, what brake rotors and calipers are you using on the all black bike in the first picture?

Thanks

That bike was a complete hack job by previous owner, I have no idea what they are. The adapter was literally made of lots of little flat iron sections and little bolts, think mechano set. The caliper looked like a first gen GSXR750 but I don't know for sure.

I still have the rotor and caliper if you're interested.
