Yambits Crankshaft

#1 Post by 2smoke » Sun Mar 31, 2013 8:31 pm

Hi
I finally got around to taking some pictures of the brand new Yambits RDLC crank i bought.
Bearings are Japanese HIC (or so they say on them)
Rods say "made in Japan" but who knows for sure.
The anti rotation pins are in the correct places.
It came with small end bearings which was a surprise.
Quality is good. Finish of machined surfaces is smooth. Crank weights have some kind of anti-corrosion coating as well as the rods.
Measurements seem the same as the original. Made in Taiwan sticker on the box.
Crank is not welded.
Oh, the shipping box sucks, the crank was just laying in that formed foam. No sealed bag. No special packaging.
My only gripe at the moment is one of the bearings doesnt feel like the others when i spin it. Not sure yet what to think of it, it doesnt feel smooth and quiet like the others. It feels free and noisy. So i need to investigate it further, might have to change it, it is one of the outter ones. We will see.
Overall i am pleased with the crank.

I got one for my RD as well. It got here in 6 days over a long weekend.. I was impressed. All my bearing are nice and smooth. Now if the rain rain would just stop I'd happily rack some miles up on it...

Hope it works out for you.
Many Swear at Yambits ...rather than by them :-)
Why buy a clone tho?
OEM crank rebuilt by a competent builder using OEM parts is a seriously 'better' unit.

Bare, sometimes a new crank makes more sense.
My crank was too worn out and not suitable for rebuild. I would have to find another used one and have it rebuilt.
These are 33 year old cranks!
I had the opportunity to try out one of these new ones, and I did. If you had one in your hands I don't think you would be so negative.
Also some people want to get back on the road asap and four days to your door is excellent.
Time will tell if they will last but I don't see any problems.

In my case by the time I had sourced the parts and added in the cost of the labour to rebuild mine it was virtually the same as buying a new one from yambits. Not to mention without the turnaround time or the time spend buying all the individual parts... several of which seem only to be supplied by, you guessed it, yambits...

I have heard stories of crap seals and bearings from India. Why any one would risk selling that crap is beyond me.
I cant get on that forum link without a password.

I had a look at the link, basically it seems there seals were made of inferior rubber and were splitting. I Went all OEM on gaskets and seals on my rebuild. I think the total for the headgasket, base gaskets, and crank seals was about $120 from my dealer. Seemed both fair and worthwhile to me.

Don't be fooled by the Yambits website. Some of what they sell is real crap or simply just doesn't fit or work. Water pump bearings made in India, lines and clamps that are far too small to work properly, flywheel nuts that are far too big, etc.. They are fast, but that just means you get the wrong parts or junk faster. I've had that happen several times lately. Lesson learned. Just because it looks like EOM doesn't mean it's OEM quality.

You can never go wrong with genuine Yamaha parts. You do get what you pay for.

In terms of the crank they seemed to be my only option... hopefully it lasts. It seems to run well.

I have had a couple of issues with parts from Yambits. Throttle tube that was too short and brake mount bolts that were too long ... stuff like that. However at the same time I got a NOS RZ oil pump cover from them for about 1/3 the cost of the same part from my local Yam dealer.

These cranks are good quality.
Wiseco and hotrods come with TIC bearings made in Taiwan, and are likely made there also.
this comes with Japanese HIC which was the original Yamaha supplier, also the rods are made by Long which is a current choice for quality aftermarket within TZ owners and other racers, is pretty much better than OEM .
The only drawback is the labyrinth seal design should have oil slots like the RZ.And Talking about packaging I had a wiseco arrive with one shaft poking out the box.
I bet that "strange" bearing only needs cleaning and a dab of oil, All delivered cranks should be checked for trueness on V-blocks with a uMeter as a matter of course

At any rate, for what its worth I bought a vitos crank, and had a TZ racer mate check it out here in oz with the V Blocks, and dial guage, came under spec which was claimed and I was happy.
He showed me a hotrods example on the v blocks that was new, and was out of spec. So head the advice of Motoholic and if you buy an aftermarket crank, have it measured for run out before it goes in, takes about 5 minutes.
Having said that he said if he likes to get the tolerences closer on the race bikes.
Food for thought
