FZR400 Caliper Generation?
Okay forum I think I messed up. I ordered '90 FZR400 front calipers. The spacing is fine for the fork leg (F2), but the offset appears to place the caliper too far inboard. Did I buy the wrong ones? Looks like a quick pass on a mill can square it away pretty easily.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Cheers!

Re: FZR400 Caliper Generation?
I believe the 3TJ calipers are the ones you need.

Re: FZR400 Caliper Generation?
Are the ones you have branded with the name "SUMITOMO" ?
I bought a FZR400 A from 1989 and they are the sumitomo affair and I have a 1986 F2 RD and I remember they didn't fit the F2 leg; I didn't bother because I was swapping the whole suspension.
So looking at the Japanese site from the previous posted link which are the ones u got?
Careful with the disc diameter because a very big difference between the 2 bikes (FZR & RD) may cause the edges of the FZR pads miss the contour of a very smaller RD disc
Thumbs up for the Japan sites with info/pics.They are GREAT

Re: FZR400 Caliper Generation?
The 400 calipers you want are from the rare RR model. Not the normal bike.
I am running TZR 3MA calipers. They were a bastard to bleed, and are supposedly known for drag... Oh well.

Re: FZR400 Caliper Generation?
Did it work ?
I´m trying to swap mine for a better option.
I bought 87' FZ600 Front Calipers...but it didn´t work very well...it´ll need some great mods to make it work.
Are those FZR400 (3TJ) Plug n' play ?
Cheers!

Re: FZR400 Caliper Generation?
fzr 250 3ln is also the same
as is tzr250 3ma
i think 3xv are the same aswell
i have normal Fzr400 ones and they fit . so not just the RR ones work

Re: FZR400 Caliper Generation?
I understand if you want to keep it original looking, but instead of chasing down rare 30 year old calipers you can get a pair of 4 piston Triumphs or some adapters for R1 blue spots and have much newer hardware that you won't have to rebuild to use.mceoni wrote:Did it work ?

I rode a friends VFR years ago and thought 'wow, I wish I had brakes like that'. The 955 Daytona calipers and an R1 radial master got me there for about $100. Unfortunately I'd already spent that much rebuilding the RZ brakes and buying new pads and braided lines for just a small improvement.
Re: FZR400 Caliper Generation?
Actually, I still have a question.
Which Fork will work for the FZR400 calipers ?
Because I was wondering, if the American RZ´s forks, European RD´s LC2/F1/F2 forks and Brazilian (1YH) RD´s forks has the same bolt caliper measurements...aparently not, right ?
I´m trying to do the swap on a 90' Brazilian RD350...
It just look like the European´s F2, but I´m not sure. How can I check it ?
Nzminis,
So...I´ll look for those!
RuZty,
I bought a pair of R1 blue spot...including the master cylinder...those were my first plan...but as you thought, I really would like to keep the original looking, thats why I ´ve changed my mind about using it...
So my new plan is to keep the R1 master cylinder and buy a pair of FZR400...
I already did the full FZ600 rear set...and it was easy.
Anyway, thanks for the advice! =)
