Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
I'd be interested in the R1 caliper brackets for mounting R1 calipers to the stock US RZ forks.
Can the R1 rotors be mounted to U.S. stock RZ front wheels? If so, what year R1 calipers and rotors are used or needed for this swap?
Thanks

Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
Thanks for posting that rbenz.
The 02 and 03 R1 rotors bolts straight on to the RZ wheel with no modification. I believe all the Yamaha rotors with the large 6 bolt pattern are the same, 298mm in diameter. Vmax and some FZ1s came with the same rotor as the R1 also.
I used the stock RZ master on it for awhile and it worked but I never liked how bulky they are. I just got my R1 master so I will try that out. BTW how are you guys thats done this conversion mounting the reservior?

Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
That's a great question! I've read where some people have mounted and used a Honda CBR 600 M/C. It turns out that the size of the M/C is 5/8" if I recall correctly. This makes for a much more efficient front brake, as it requires less lever pressure and easier modulation to apply the front brake. A lot of these on Pee Bay, and prices vary. I couldn't find one for a reasonable price when I put SS lines on mine, so I was forced to rebuild the M/C which cost $35.00 for a rebuild kit. If I make this caliper and rotor swap, I'm going to use the Honda or similar M/C.
Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
the honda m/c is usually a nissin cylinder
the r6 with blue spot calipers uses the 5/8 nissin cylinder
ive got 5/8 nissin cylinders on my 250 and my 500 . 250 has fzr 3ln 4 piston calipers . the lever feel is good . bit of freeplay before it starts to work . and my 500 has 4 pistons brembos and the same nissin mc . but the lever is hard and they start to work as soon as you start to pull
but i do recomend the nissin cylinder . standard on R6 and R1 early 2000s

Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
So here it is.
This is what I made to mount the reservoir for the R1 master cylinder.
You'll need some .187 female connectors for the R1 brake light switch and some male plug connectors if you don't want to cut the RZ harness.
I used Goodridge brake lines for the FZ1(I'm using stock bars) as they are longer then the R1 lines(which will be better for clipons).
I put this in the For Sale forum.

Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
Okay soooo are you doing multiples of these? Want to do r1 brakes but I want to get adapters and lines before I buy the rotors and calipers!
Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
Thanks John.
Yes I have a couple sets made if your interested Brandav.

Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
Yeah, how much for the caliper adapters shipped to zip code 55347. Or if you could give a weight?
I don't think I want to mount that type of reservoir to my m/c. Looks like it could break off a little too easily.
Thank you.

I guess if you had a "Big Off" the bracket could break.krmiller70 wrote:Yeah, how much for the caliper adapters shipped to zip code 55347. Or if you could give a weight?

Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
Will these adapters allow for the use of the 6 piston calipers from am 09 through 2012 R1?
I'd like to use the most stock Yamaha caliper for the buck sort of speak. Any recommendations ?
I'm using the stock RZ front forks (US model).
What would the cost be, since it looks like a number of members are interested in these adapters.
Mine would be shipped to zip code 55347 (MN) or if you could provide the weight of the adapters, I can go to USPS.com for shipping costs.
Thank you.

Re: Caliper adapters. Interest?
I too would be interested in the newer 6 pot R1 adapters for the RZ forks. Is there any plans to produce them?
