If you haven't tried it, you should
In the process of painting both of my wheels with PlastiDip. For one, I want white. Two, the previous owner did a pretty crappy job with the yellow wheels that were on it. He did a quality job with quality paint, but put some unnecessary ugly black pin stripes on the spokes and outer diameter of rim. I know the correct way, is use quality paint. I also know white rims are very hard to keep clean. However, I wanted to do this quickly as I'm finishing up on a lot of other things on the bike. I figured, this way. I could get it done quick. If I don't like the way the bike looks or the product isn't durable enough. I can tear it off in a few minutes. Followed up by doing it the correct way when I have more time. For now, I just want to ride it and was interested in testing it's durability. I was extremely impressed. It's an amazing product. Seems very durable to look. The product should allow easy spray off of dirt, oil, etc. A good friend mentioned that it holds up extremely well to even a pressure wash. If it doesn't, I'll tear it off and do it right. Pretty nice for a total of $25 ( 4 cans ) and only taking an hour or so to do. I didn't even have to remove the tires. I still have to clean them up. Tape on stem, small amount of over spray to be cut off, etc. I may be the most skeptic person you could meet in reference to gimmick products. But, this stuff is truly awesome. I figured I'd post this, being some guys may want to try it.

Wow. I constantly bitch in my mind about prices here. How can you guys down there afford to eat with prices like that ? Yeah, white wheels are one of those things. People either love'em or hate e'm. I've owned a dozen or so bikes over the course of my life and always wanted white wheels. But, never had them. So, I made that a point with this bike.JonW wrote:4 cans here is over $100, sigh...

Isn't that the same 'current' price of Beer in Aus?JonW wrote:4 cans here is over $100, sigh...
Re: If you haven't tried it, you should
Nah, beer is cheap enough here... 24 cans from $30-60 depending on what you drink. Ok, its not USA prices, but our beer is mostly 5% ;)

Plus our beer tastes good...
Is this like the armourall custom coat? I've got a couple of cans on the shelf to do bits of the 4wd. Was thinking of hitting the fork legs with the black, not sure how it'll hold up..

Re: If you haven't tried it, you should
I was going to do my fork legs in the black PlastiDip. But, mine had very minimal scratches. Therefore, it took very little work to bring them to an awesome polished shine. Had they had a some deeper gouges, etc. I would have saved the polish work and did them with the PlastiDip. Polished aluminum looks awesome if done right. Downside to that, you have to touch them up every few months or they'll will begin to oxidize very quickly. No big deal, if you keep after them with a very quick touch up with Mother's aluminum polish, etc. every 2 or 3 months. No doubt in my mind the PlastiDip will hold up if you apply it correctly. Extremely clean surface, applied with very light coats. Worst case scenario, you can rip it off in several minutes. Even, if you don't like the look. Something you can't do with paint, powdercoat, etc.pez wrote:Plus our beer tastes good...

FYI There are a couple of good clears for alloy but they are not always easy to find.

I hear ya. That's the correct way to do it. But, at the same time. Clear, will diminish an aluminum's polished shine. The clear too, can start to yellow, etc. given time.JonW wrote:FYI There are a couple of good clears for alloy but they are not always easy to find.
Re: If you haven't tried it, you should
I also hear you, but Ive been told of a bodyshop clear that is for alloy that doesnt weather and wont kill the shine, they are using it on my XT tank so lets see how that comes out, looked pretty shiny the other day but not finished yet.

Re: If you haven't tried it, you should
UPDATE - Don't use this stuff on your wheels guys. It is extremely durable and the finish looks very nice. However, for some reason oil from the pipes can not be wiped off. For some odd reason, once it gets on the PlastiDip. It's there to stay. Shame, cause it is very durable and extremely easy to use. I'm gonna have to spray them with some real quality paint. I thought oil, dirt, grime would wipe off easily with this stuff. I was wrong. I'm going to experiment with some other cleaners. But, as of now. Degreaser, rubbing alcohol or water doesn't work.

Re: If you haven't tried it, you should
Do you think it might help if after you put the PlastiDip on the wheels (allowing enough time to properly cure) you sprayed some Non-Stick Pam to make clean up of the exhaust oil possible?pearljam724 wrote:UPDATE - Don't use this stuff on your wheels guys.
