pads rubbing

When the brakes are well set-up and bled properly.....how much should the brake pads be rubbing on the rotors when the brakes are not being applied? How freely should the wheels spin when on the center stand? Thanks.

Pads on all bikes are designed in that they will drag a minimum at all times. But, you should barely hear them rubbing or feel it pushing the bike around. If at all. If you've worked on the brakes recently and the pads are gripping the rotors too tightly and the wheel is not spinning freely. You need to remove the reservoir lid and diaphragm. Remove the calipers and force the pistons back with a 2 inch C clamp. Your pistons are sticking. You need to be sure that they are very clean. Regardless, this happens a lot after working on brakes. If everything is right. Forcing the pistons back one time, everything should be ok thereafter. Every drop of air has to be out of the system or you'll have problems. The wheels should spin freely, with a minimum of one complete rotation. If you spin it by hand. Invest in or create your own bleeding bottle and hose attachments. It makes proper bleeding a piece of cake. But, does take considerable time sometimes to get all of the air out. Often it takes a dozen or more cracks of the bleeders to get all air out. You have to start at the left caliper. Followed by right. Then finally the banjo fitting at the master cylinder. Sometimes, you have to repeat that cycle several times or more. Pump the lever slowly several times, them hold that lever via a strap, etc. Barely crack bleeder until air is released. Repeat the process sometimes a hundred times, lol ! You'll get it right. After this process, if the brakes still aren't the greatest. You need to go back at it again. Because more air remains.

Check the pins that hold the pads in place also. If they are corroded, they will hold the pads and stop them from releasing evenly which could cause rubbing, although not enough to cause binding.

Good point also, mine had enough corrosion on them that I had take a very low grit of sand paper to them.

Good point also, mine had enough corrosion on them that I had take a very low grit of sand paper to them.
Be careful sanding them, they are plated steel, sanding could take off what's left leading to more issues down the road. Best to replace them if they are really bad.
