Brake & Clutch Lever Upgrade

#1 Post by Hooligan » Tue Jun 03, 2014 1:04 am

Kinda tired of the OEM levers on my LC ad RZ flopping around. Was thinking I'd like to upgrade to modern adjustable levers like these ones.

The only problem being nobody makes these specifically for the LC and RZ. Does anyone know if levers from another Yamaha will fit? Or if not a master cylinder and clutch perch that can be grafted onto the LC (complete with mirror mounts) and the RZ?

Trolling through ebay I found a set for an R6 which even feature a cable clutch. Anyone think an R6 clutch lever will fit an RZ lurch perch?

I have found some "universal" ones but they include a mirror mount that is inside the perch and I am not sure if that will fit with the LC/RZ switch gear. May just have to suck it up and give those a try.

It's going to require buying those type of levers that are designed for a specific bike. Then buying the master cylinder and clutch perch for the bike those levers are designed for. It will work. But, you have to buy those 3 correct combinations. See if someone makes them for the Banshee. If the Banshee uses the same master cylinder and perch as the RZ. To avoid having to buy another master cylinder and clutch perch. If not, you'll have to take the other route.

i have these on my bike and my Rzv 500 aswell

2002 r6 clutch fits the Rz perch , just needs a little file where it mounts and a washer made to space it up , 30 min job

i had a nissin master cylinder on the bike anyway . and the 02 r6 has the same master , so the brake just bolted on

so 2002 r6 clutch is the one you need !

Superb info nzminis. I run the levers like those above, but on RGV master and clutch perch so not helpful

I use a clutch perch from an old Yamaha XJ 600 (yes, the one that used a lot of common parts with teh first YPVS), I use R6 master cylinder for the brake, but I needed some adaption work to match those )or very similar) levers.

I've got Pazzo levers on R6 parts, bought them for the hybrid but couldn't resist mounting them on the daily rider in the meantime. (not a word Dana!)
The shorty levers do make the clutch effort notably higher, but I am running 3 out of 6 heavy springs.

Has anyone had problems with the newer levers clearing (or not) the RD/RZ switchgear?

I got the long version not the short , they are real nice to use .

I find they clear better on the switches than the stock levers did .

Here are some pics .

I did a similar upgrade and went with the shorty levers. I bought a set for the R6 since I upgraded the brake setup with R6 parts. The clutch perch still stock but I was able to make it fit with washers, WD40 and a lot of persistence.

Your Yama's levers 'flop' around'. Why?
Mine albeit bought as new replacements..do Not flop about, being every bit as tight as the ones on my 600rr.
Wierd is all I can say.

Clearly :-) So why not replace the entire assembly? Likely of less cost than Blingy Levers alone.
