Forks and seals.

#1 Post by hondaror » Sat Jul 12, 2014 12:15 pm

I'm looking for John to pipe up here, but perhaps others know as well. Are the '86-'90 fork seals the same as the pre '86 ones. I know fork internals differ, and so do some of the stanction tubes in the triple clamp area. Any info I try to seek out is usually US based and they never had the '86 on. I have both sets of forks and need to order seals for all. My measuring stuff is at work, I would like to order today and thought this might be a quick way to get a good answer. Thanks in advance.

They'll all the same Rory. 1984 is P/N 29L-23145-00, but it supersedes to 1UA-23145-00 which is the 85-90 P/N.

I always buy mine from Yamaha, but any shop can get them from Parts Unlimited, Moto Van, All Balls, etc. I used a set someone bought from Yambits last year and they leaked on his bike right away.

Thanks John. I was pretty sure they were all the same. I bought 4 sets of Athena seals. I'll let everyone know how these work out.

Does anyone know about dust caps? The aftermarket is coming up short there. OEM still available?

Both still available from Yamaha the last time I checked. Not expensive. About $15 Cdn each I believe.

Available aftermarket as well....Yambits has them so others will too. Pyramid makes them also. When I search eBay "Fork Seals" the boots show up too.

Lol....I know exactly what you mean.

When I search for something on eBay I try to use every possible name for the part. It can take a long time, but eventually I'll find what I need. Often what the seller calls it in no way relates to what it actually is. Clocks are a good example....instruments, gauges, gages, meters, clocks, dials, indicators, etc...
