RZ front brakes acting up

Re: RZ front brakes acting up
Why don't you take it in to a brake place and have them turn the rotor? Then clean the caliper while its off? Its cheap and should fix your problem. Install new pads and everything should be good.
Re: RZ front brakes acting up
Good idea, never thought of that. Will places that turn car rotors also turn motorcycle rotors?
Re: RZ front brakes acting up
I highly doubt a bike rotor could be turned on the machinery that does car rotors. Bike rotors are much thinner and don't have a huge hub to fit the machine.

Re: RZ front brakes acting up
you can do it on a lathe, but with old brake disks they will be near their limit anyway I would think.
Ive had brakes that have inclusions or internal cracks that warp only when hot, even brake specialists rarely see that it seems, but it happens.
Either way another disk and a caliper clean / overhaul is what you need.

Re: RZ front brakes acting up
Rotor distortion results from uneven cooling after a heavy braking session. This is usually caused be standing with the brake on so the rotor can't lose its heat load at the place where the pads are in contact. This is more rare in a racing environment as its usually into the paddock and onto the stand to cool down.

As I had mentioned in another thread, usually seen on street bikes.alan1949 wrote:Rotor distortion results from uneven cooling after a heavy braking session. Re: RZ front brakes acting up
I did bring it to the track a while ago and it might have warped then? Or if I messed something up when I rebuilt the calipers a few years ago. Who knows, one rotor is definitely warped though. Will need to be sure I don't have a stuck caliper.
Re: RZ front brakes acting up
I feel that pulsing is not primarily due to warpage but variations in rotor thickness, maybe due to soft areas in the disks or secondary to heat and pressure. Similar to what happens on asphalt in braking areas.
