CDN 89 brake job

#1 Post by dinamos » Mon Feb 16, 2015 2:55 am

Getting ready to rebuild MCs and calipers. Does Yamaha have the parts?

I'm in Burlington On. Also need SS brake lines. Should I find a local shop or is there a general supplier?

Hydraulic shops can make you any brake lines a lot cheaper than what you could buy .

do you not have some kind of approvals rating for brake lines? if you do then you need that for any inspection, if not then its all good to make your own from a kit even...

A hydraulic house will not have the Yamaha banjos, just reuse the ones you've got on the stock hoses.

In the high pressure world of hydraulics, brake hoses are pretty Mickey Mouse.

depends on what you need for inspectsions. In Aus you need then to have an approvals tag and be swaged not screwed together, what about your market?

Rebuilt my calipers and masters last summer and all parts were available from Yamaha Canada. Take a friend to hold you up when they tell you how much they want for those little pieces of rubber.

Thanks, one and all.

As far as regs go up here, as long as we don't spray brake fluid on the car in the lane beside us, we're good to go.

I'll shop around for a local hydraulic shop and bring my old hoses with me.

I was going to give all my caliper and MC parts a Pine Sol soak. Maybe give the parts a close inspection after that and see if I really need rebuild kits. Yeah, I expect they'll come out looking like crap, but I can dream, can't I?

Really looking forward to a Summer with fresh brakes. Yeash, the weather forecast for tomorrow morning is -35 C wind chill.

Triumph 4 pot calipers bolt straight on to late model RZ forks. HUGE improvement in braking performance and they look good to boot.

Ditto, one of the best easy improvements I've made. Costs less that overhauling stock stuff with way better results. I even used stock pads the calipers came with.

I added steel lines and had to get new pads which upped the cost a little but the brakes are so much better than the stockers.

I already had braided lines with threaded ends so I was able to rotate the ends. Pads were decent condition so lazy won out. A decent aftermarket set would be the icing on the cake, what did you go with?

Silly question, what's the weight difference of the Triumph calipers over stock?

Although the Triumph units sound nice I'm looking down the road to rebuilding the OEM front suspension as well. Gotta look into what upgrades are available and take the extra mass of the Triumph parts into the equation.

Next year I'll sell the original calipers as newly rebuilt, if all goes well.

Id wager they weigh less than other calipers that need a bracket, but maybe a bit more than stock, they have more steel pistons and more alloy plus a bit more fluid in em, but its pretty close really.
