I weighed a triumph caliper, pads and all on my postal scale (US) and it is 2.25 lbs. I weighed one of my '84 RZ calipers on the same scale and it is 2.5 lbs. Looking them side by side, it is pretty easy to see why. The RZ caliper has heavy ribs on the top and the triumph is open on top.

Thank you "waltmll", this is information I can get behind. Good thing too, I was just about to order all the parts for the OEM rebuild.

Next order of business, when I troll Ebay what caliper units should I be looking for? I looked at a dual piston unit off an 03-04 Daytona 600. Am I in the ball park here?

Nice "JonW", info I can use. Thanks.

I see you have a few posts in the "Tech Tips" section. You need to post there more.

No worries. Ive posted quite a bit in the tech tips section, but there seems little point adding the same info to two places. IMHO I find that it's better to link to my site, which i do update with new info when it comes up and then people can find it from all the forums and google of course. :)

Roger, remember you need later model fork lowers for this mod. 83mm bolt spacing. The US '84 '85 bolt spacing is too short. You might want to go with the adapter plates and blue or gold spot R1 calipers. I have a set of blue spots and will weigh one later but I do not have an adapter to weigh. The blue spot is just over 2.5 lbs.

Thanks "waltmll" but I'm working on an '89 RZ up here in Canada. "JonW' has a nice tech piece on his web site outlining the procedure.

Hey "Hooligan", can you PM some pics. I'll know em if I see em thanks to "JonW".

Certainly the Triumph Calipers are Improved over the single piston Valvie ones..no arguement.
But I wonder IF some of the improvement is due to the resultant *Better*
Master Cyl bore/caliper bore ratio when using those twin piston Triumph calipers ??
I know that retrofitting a 1/2" bore master cyl to a twin caliper (single piston) 350 makes for Dramatic braking improvements.

Darn all you guys, now that's something else I gotta think about, a non OEM 1/2" bore MC. All I wanted to do was a simple OEM rebuild. : )

OK, any Master Cylinder "savants" know what 1/2" bore MC will work on an '89 RZ front right OEM clip on bar AND work with either the OEM calipers or the Triumph calipers?

While we're at it, it's a given I'll be using SS braided brake lines, what's the best bang for bucks:

- Triumph calipers and OEM MC

- OEM calipers and non OEM MC 1/2" bore

- OEM simple rebuild

This poll is open to all except those in Australia, cause no one can understand the Australian accent. : )
