rz brake ?

#1 Post by two-stroke-brit » Tue Mar 03, 2015 3:13 pm

being a RD fan i have only a passing knowledge of the RZ , so my question is did any of the later models have twin piston caliper brakes.

The easier way would be to use some caliper adapter brackets with your forks.

But you could pick up early rz350 upper +lower triple trees then do this:

the fork swap would be pretty easy I think... the axle is the same, the brakes might be interesting as i bet they are spaced a little further out on the RZ, but its not impossible...

I believe the early RZs are the same as the RD LC for caliper mount spacing, but the later F2 would need carriers as mentioned. Get your hands on an F2 front end or buy the lower legs and calipers from the F2 for the earlier RZ forks.

The best way to work out what you need is to try it really, it cant be that hard, at least the axle is the same on the early RZ forks to the LC, as is the front wheel spacer and the speedo drive, Ive not checked the 85-on front end parts books, but they are out there Mark if you get a chance (F2 is on xaviers site?), just compare to partzilla's parts listing and you will know. (report back too pls!) :)

i read this earlier and its what got me thinking.
the only wrinkle is i would want to keep the LC wheel .
but i am fairly sure it would only be a matter of making up some spacer plates for the rotors,
a local buddy has 2 rzs but not sure what year ( not running),
he is going to do some painting for me , so beer in hand i will be snouting through his packed garage

Actually the 85's were longer than the 86's from what ive read, tho i didnt know that when I had a set of 86's here so didnt compare them. seems there are some differences between the N and F models or something...

Mark, you can fit R1 blue spots to the LC with spacers that are sold by NK and I think that TDR was going to make some more locally to you as well. But if you wanted all 'period yam', then swapping the forks and doing what we discussed earlier in this thread is the way. The R1 brakes will stop you much quicker but not look 'period' of course.

bear i mind that if you fit the later forks and get that setup working but then decide you want more braking that you can fit the Triumph calipers as well, they really work well on these light bikes.

I have both NK racing caliper adapters for the RZ and LC and 2 sets of TDR's adapters. The TDR adapters are first rate, NK is rather sloppily made.

On my LC I have mounted 83 RZ350 forks with the LC wheel and rotors. Its nice because the LC headlight brackets fit on the tapered section of the upper tubes. The caliper offset is the same as the RZ. I am using the side mounted LC fender. The top mounted late model RZ fender just doesn't look right to me on a LC so I wont be using late model RZ fork lowers.
