Need Tire Recommendations for 84 RZ350

#1 Post by yz250fpilot » Thu Apr 02, 2015 2:18 pm

I have searched and found a bunch of different answers, but what is a good currently produced tire for the front and rear of my 84 RZ350. Suspension is original, and I currently have some old Dunlop Elite SP tires that are hard as rocks and cracked. The sizes on it now are 100/90/18 on the front and 110/90/18 on the rear. I would like to replace them with whatever is the best option and size. Thanks for any replies!

I found the Bridgestone BT45 in the OEM sizes for like $130 and $140 through cyclegear. Do you recommend the oem sizes and does anyone have an opinion on these tires?

BT45 are awesome tires. Have raced on them and they are nice and sticky. Avon roadriders are the other common recommendation but would stick with the BT45 unless not available in your size. I had no troubles finding them in a size that would work for OEM. You can go slightly up on size and change profile. Its around the forum.

Here is a link to a magazine tire test for all the popular tires that fit our bikes; Dunlop 501, Bridgestone BT45, Michelin Pilot Activ, Continental Conti Go, Pirelli Spot Demons and Avon Road Rider AM26 etc.. A good quick read.

Not to spoil it but the Avons come out on top. I can say that I have BT45's and like well enough but I am going to be buying a set of Avon's.

Ok, I found these through Chaparral:

Avon AM26 Roadrider Front/Rear Tire
Part #:330-5701
Size:90/90VR-18
$84.88

Avon AM26 Roadrider Front/Rear Tire
Part #:330-5702
Size:110/80V-18
$91.88

That is the same Avon you guys are recommending correct? Thanks a lot for the replies! :smt006

That's the correct Avon tyre.

I have changed to Avon's after using BT45's. The problem with BT45's, like I and many others have found is that they lose their profile very quickly on the rear (square off). I'm told the Avon's don't suffer as much but I'm yet to put enough miles on them to comment. Grip is good enough from what I have tried.

You fellas mounting these yourself or having it done. For myself it's worth a few thousand cuss words.

Not relevant as these are going on a track bike but they have a great profile mounted.

I used to run over sized rubber, but stock sizes make for very nimble handling. I still like to run a 120 on the rear.
