vj22 swing arm conversion linkage dog bones

#1 Post by subxero » Tue Jun 23, 2015 11:56 am

I am in the process of getting the linkage all sorted out on my 84 rz350 with the vj22 swing arm and was wondering what length eye to eye where your dog bones if you did the conversion just to give me some numbers to go on and play around with when making them.

Also does anyone know of any adjustable dog bones available for purchase that would be long enough?
would be nice to find a set that worked but I am not holding my breath.

NK racing sells the bones and the adaptor plates bolts and spacers.
You just have to have your centre stand brackets in place.
Ps you lose the centre stand in the process

Also RGVSteve is in the USA so shipping is cheaper if you live in the United States.

I spoke with him a while back and got some questions answered. Might have to give him a ring again soon.

Seahorse I made a lot of mistakes by listening to people from this forum. I'm sure it was not intended with any malice. They were just clueless. I just listen to folks that provided me with valuable information and the same goes for there work.

Make your own out of ¼" aluminum, if you have access to a drill press and band saw it's a piece of cake. The drawings that were floating around show 210mm eye to eye, but I think that leaves the rear too low. Every 1mm off the dogbones raises the rear about 4mm from memory.
I don't think there is room to easily do adjustable ones, but they are easy enough to make that you can redo them if needed. You could even rough out the first set from some inch by ¼ flat bar and slot the holes at one end. You aren't going to ride it this way but you can clamp it down tight enough with the bolt to set the ride height until you determine the correct length.

^ good advice and i'm actually in the process. 210mm eye to eye is about what I estimated so that makes me feel decent about that. I have some rough cut bones mounted to the swing arm right now. I am just messing with the rear height and taking rake and trail measurements before I drill the holes through the bones that connect to the linkage.

Would like to get it the first time but if I don't like these ones I have enough material to cut another set.

I thought about making adjustables but the length is so long I wasn't crazy about the idea. IDK? :smt017

You could make up some adjustable ones (one even) just so you can find the right length eye-to-eye, dont actually ride like that.

Giron, the good advice on this forum far outweighs the bad.

I feel with no malice nor disrespect to anyone in this forum. The advices I have listen to in this forum and I known these individuals where not very knowledgeable. The ones with malice ripped me off. I just deal with two people now and they have provided me with good advice and flawless work. I can speak very highly of these two individuals.

Thats fine mate, but youre tarring the other thousand plus members with same brush as those who ripped you off when you say this stuff. If there are only two guys you trust, then why bother with the forum at all?

to make folks think not once but more times. Don't just jump into it. Think about what you are intending to do. that previous thread on the pipes on the can of worms I open. when the 500 GP two stroke bikes were running. I always try to get a glimpse into the back of the GP trailers where the equipment was. They had different pipes for different tracks. I try to convey the idea where pipes had to be built to the environment you were riding. congested city traffic or open twisted roads. My thought was shut down. I read mostly the want adds for my different projects.

I dont think anyone would disagree that any person contemplating upgrading their bike should think long and hard about it and do plenty of research, so we are on the same page there. Amusingly Ive read good and bad reports of all sorts of suppliers and fettlers, including perhaps your go-to guys, its all part of research and should be stored away, just cos I get on with someone, you might not etc. we are all different.

Ok, I was away, but Ive read the pipe thread and it wasnt pretty at times, but just like everywhere else in life where people might not always agree it doesnt de-valve anyones input, despite what gets said; we are all human after all.

Anyway, this thread is about RGV rear suspension... here is the full info on what you need, the NK and other kits use the same spacer dims as the plans now hosted on my site AFAIK. Its a free download for anyone needing them:
