Reduced diameter forks?

#1 Post by justind97 » Mon Apr 18, 2016 9:56 am

I got some forks this past weekend and they seem a bit odd.

They have a reduced diameter section at the top of the fork tube, probably about 5mm in diameter.
They are air forks

I will get some pictures this afternoon.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Justin, those folks are from a Canadian 83 model. Others will confirm this.

I have an 83 with those forks, plus a bunch of 84 and 85 US models which do not have that step down at the top.

Very strange why they did this???

Seems like extra manufacturing $ and effort for no benefit.

Those forks were larger then the RD/LC stuff and were turned down between the triples to reduce some of the weight up high. I have a set of those too. I have not compared wall thickness to the latter forks yet. I suspect the newer forks are thinner walled.
