84 front caliper shims?

#1 Post by Martman » Wed Jul 06, 2016 11:17 am

My 84 front brakes are missing the small shims that appear to clip onto one pad of each caliper. The brakes are extremely weak and the pads don't contact the disc evenly. Has anyone run into this or has run the bike without them? Of course yamaha only has one side available and CMSNL has them but big money once shipping is factored in. part #'s are 11U 2582710 and 11U 2582700 - see the page address below for a pic on CMSNL site

http://www.cmsnl.com/yamaha-rz350-1984- ... 30IA7grKUl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've rebuilt the master cyl and both calipers - so shouldn't be any issues there.. if someone has a workaround or advice any insight is appreciated.

thanks!

I haven't seen the shims on any of my bikes or on a lot of other bikes in years. They don't affect performance. They are just anti squeal shims. The shims won't make your brakes work any better.
